Freshmen and transfers were requested by Harriet Singer ’4l, Panhellenic Council president, last night to answer all party invitations by telephone: as soon as they receive them since sor ority women cannot make final plans without the number of guests. Contrary to last year’s policy, sorority women need not include their own expenses for cokes, movies, and the like in daily expense sheets, but all expenses of rushees must be submitted to Panhellenic Rushing Chairman Jean H. Krauser ’42 and kept within the S2O limit. RUSHING SCHEDULE TODAY AND TOMORROW Free association. HELD-OVER TODAY ONLY By Popular Demand imm THEATRE METZGERS" THE DAILY COLLEGIAN SATURDAY FEBRUARY 10 3tpd 2-7-41 L We, The Women — Rushees Embarrassed By Mobbing Greeks A rush which surpassed the fight for Artist Course tickets and equalled any subway jam on record began when the offi cial Panhellenic gun sounded at; noon-yesterday. In fact, the sorority stampede to • telephones and freshman rooms began before the whistle legally bleiy. Since almost all sororities jumped the gun to capture dates for the Rec Hall events last night it is useless to point criticism at one or two houses. ■ But against the system which allowed wholesale embarrass ments for both freshman and sorority women a case can be made. Elbows jabbed competing so: ority women out of the way ar otherwise dignified coeds 10l their dignity in the mad scram ble for priority rights with rush ees. But the most embarrassing si uations were undoubtedly e, perienced by the freshman wom en, who were pounced upon ' three or four women from di ferent houses and had to choo: (in front of all of them) whi( to accompany to Rec Hall. Surely Panhellenic Coum didn’t anticipate such a chaoi response to the opening of foi mal rushing season and sure] freshmen didn’t bargain for tl horde of Greeks which push* into their rooms at noon yeste: day. We don’t blame the sororh women, for it was a case of th. “early bird gets the worm.” Am we can’t blame the rushing cod< for as it stands no mobbing wa; legalized in black and-white.
