UNDERWEAR PENN STATE COLLEGIAN Owls Deadlock Booters; Is 53rd Game In Streak Wodock Outstanding At Goal For State; Megrail And Hosterman Good On Offense ~ . By ED McLORIE Still undefeated after a gruelling scoreless tie\\vith Tem ple Saturday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love, Penn State’s jsoccei Lions, finished then- season with strong hopes of again being nameif’National champions • The .tie was only the fifth stale-’ mate during the long victory streak and marked the 53rd-game without defeat for the Jeffrey coached lads in seven undefeated seasons. During this season the Lions had won seven straight games before the defensive Owls halted them. It was the first tie since the Army game two “years ago i Facing a strong defensive out fit in the Owls, the Nittany eleven laded to ripple the nets despite.the fact that they possessed the. ball for the greater part of the game On numerous occasions, however. Owl Dunn was forced to writhe as he kept the Temple goal line unscathed J T Bottle Up Bigott It was a different style of play 'that the Lions faced in the Temple .team’s tactics The Owls stressed a tight defense especially around goal'Adhere they placed addi tional stalwarts. " Another item which may have accounted for the failure of the State booters to tall} was the close watch Temple kept over All-American Gus Bigott Gus was constantly guarded by at least two Temple players throughout the fray and was held scoreless for the first time this season He previously hud tallied 'in every game since he returned to the lineup m the Lehigh game.' An off-side decision by the'ref eree regarding Bill Bathgate 4 of Temple saved the Lions from their fust defeat. Bathgate had knocked the ball* "over' -the line '"after a ‘scrimmage with'Lion goalie : Hswie AVodock ‘ - >’‘in TC . f - Wodock, who’ was at goal in,llls last game instead of Zen Laskar as, played __ ,a brilliant,’/game throughout /.Three, saves, .of them by'flipping the ball over, the top, of tile, goal, 'highlighted/his defensive prowess.’ ‘ -/y//, Since most of the'playing'was done between the huddle of the field and the 20-yard markers,' it was' only natural that halfbacks Don'Megrail 'and Walt'Hoster'rdah were outstanding on offense * Pos.
