Class Customs Here Undergo Many Changes in Past Decade When the 1000 freshman, men don their green dinks and other freshman apparel tomorrow morning to attend their first eight o'clock, they will be wearing customs that have been greatly simplified from the customs of past years. Ten years ago only members of the senior class were allowed to go bare, headed. The privilege of walking across the front campus or of occupy ing the front campus wall was limit* ed to members of the upper two class es., When chapel exercises were dis missed, the faculty passed out first, followed by the seniors, juniors, soph omores, and freshmen. Freshmen were allowed to enter the Old Old Main building only through certain doors. Each year the sopho mores issued a proclamation to the freshmen. Only one of these were al lowed to be issued during one term. Sophomores and freshmen were not allowed to go without coats except on Stunt night or when engaging in one of the college scraps. The black ties and socks, as well as the dink were required to be worn by the freshmen. They were allowed to use tobacco in no form while in public, nor were they allowed to linger in the vicinity of I Co-op corner. They were al so warned not to visit the vicinity where the quarters of the Student Tribunal were -located. They were not allowed to place their hands in their pockets, and of course it was consid ered improper for them to be seen as sociating with any ladies within the three-mile limit of Old Main.. Even entering pool rooms was not allowed. Only members of the upper three classes enjoyed the privilege of adorn ing their faces .with hair growths. With the R.O.TIC, uniform a band of black braid was worn by freshmen. .It was necessary for members of the lower class -to’carry matches in order to supply their upperclassmen when asked to do so.- Freshmen were ,told to buy their dinks only from .the-men authorized by the graduate manager and the sec retary of the Christian Association. Sole power was invested in the Tri bunal to interpret, any of the cus toms. On the Saturday, two weeks in advance of final examinations, Move-up day,was observed.
