The Lion golf mentor conducted trials yesterday and today to select six men to represent this school in the opening matches. The first meet with Cornell is not a league meet, al though Cornell is a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Associa tion, which Penn. State joined this year. Golfers who will compete for posi tions . on the team to meet Cornell are Jay Albere, John Coletti, Ray'Barked, Bob, Siegler, Art Gottlieb, Johnny Bennett, Paul Perry, Bob Morris, Wade 'Holman, Joe Stevens, Tom Klingensmith and George Sperling. Of these, only Sperling has had any experience 'in' varsity competi tion here, having played in one meet last year. While graduation took a heavy. toll 'of veterans, the failure of several men to return to school hit the Lions hard. George Menard, Jim Hunter and Mason Walsh, all ace golfers who saw much service in varsity competition last year, as well as Billy Hyndman, freshman last year, failed to return, greatly crip-, piing the, Lions! strength.
