LION BOOTERS WIN TILT FROM ORANGE Jeffreymcn Take 4th Straight As D’Orio Breaks 8-Game Streak of Ray Bell By WALT FREUNSCII Looking comparatively weaker than at any other time so far this season, tho Lions still managed to topple un defeated Syracuse from its perch, 3-1, on Piety Hill Saturday to make it four straight. Although the ' score was low and close, both sides blew some fine opportunities for goals. Corbett put things in motion in the opening minutes of the second quar ter when he followed up a shot by Bill McEwan that bounced off the Or ange goalie’s hands, “Judge” scoring an easy goal. Later in the same pe riod “Mac” scored handily from near the penalty kick mark, after taking a nice pass from “Nip” Ambler. Late in the third stanza, McEwan passed the pill to Joe Bielicki, who smoked it past Farnsworth, Hill goal keeper, for one of the hardest driven goals scored by the Lions all season. Although Farnsworth played a whale of a game, making many specticular saves, he hadn’t a ghost of a chance of stopping that one/ ' In the middle of the final period; •D’Orio, within less than . a minute from the time he re-entered the game, slammed one past Ray Bell for'the lone Orange tally. Bell dived for the ball, but it scampered into the far comer of the net for a well-earned goal. Thus was snapped Bell’s eight game streak .of being unscored upon, which must have been something of a record. Bell, who had. many narrow es capes throughout the entire game, said afterward, “I’m glad it’s over— the strain was getting to be too much for me.” Don Masters’ record of a goal in every game so far this year was also snapped short. Captain Fletcher was outstanding for the defense, as was Captain Gor don for the Orange-clads, both playing center half. Bielicki, McEwan and Ambler were on the ball for Slate in the line, while Terry and Hughes were stellar for the Orange. Future I. M.
