Totriny, October 30, 193.1 HARRIERS TO OPEN SEASON TOMORROW Cross-country Team Will Meet Panther Runners in Race On 0-Mile Course In their initial dual meet of the season Penn State's intercollegiate championship cioss.countay team will meet the University of Pittsburgh harriers tumors ow afternoon user the varsity six-mile course. The varsity meet will begin dur ing the second quarter of the football game and the race will end between the halves. This system was anal last year at the Syracuse meet and proved to lra satisfactory. In addi tion to the varsity meet the Panther plebes and the Lion freshmen will run over a three-mile course The freshman meet will start after the varsity run, but the yearling har riers will finish before the comple tion of the varsity race. Led by Captain "Sonny" Glassburn, the Nittany hill and dalers will be seeking to extend a victory string which Logan in 1925 when they face the Pitt team tomorrow In addition to Glassburn, England, a member of the fteshman team last year, Van Cisc, King, Greninger, Napoleon, and Space will be entered in the varsity run. Glassburn. Span, Van Cise, and King were members of the varsity last year, while Gremnger, Napoleon, and England are newcomers to the squad. Freshmen To Open Season Although winmng by a portent score from Allegheny, the Pitt lim ners have lost to West Virginia and Syracuse. Cline, a Junior, Thiele, Smoyer, Watkins, and Lawrence are the most promising members of the Panther team and of these Clise has the best chance of matching strides with the Nittany harriers. In their only dual meet of the sea son the untried Lion plebes will meet the Pitt freshmen tomorrow after noon. The Nittany freshman team will be composed of Harvey, who won the plebe time tile's Saturday, Sauer land, Masters, Alexiindei, Michaels, Stauffer, and Platt HORSE SHOE TEAM MAY ENTER MEET National Association lollies School To Compete in Collegiate Pitching Contest A request that Penn State parti cipate in an intercollegiate horseshoe pitching contest has been received fiorn the American Horse Shoe Pitch ers' association by the Physical Edu cation school. Action probably will be taken to have Penn State repre sented in the competition, according to Dean Hugo , Dezdek. The contest has been arranged on the basis of results of a survey of horseshoe pitching activity in 300 col leges and univemities conducted re cently by the association. The com petition will be open to both men and women students in the colleges asked to take part. Each entrant will be judged on the number of ringers scored in fifty trys. He is entitled to send in ten Indy., dual score charts certified by offi cials of his school. A pair of chrom ium-plated horseshoes in a leather case will be awarded to the highest scorer up to January 1 and the same award ti, t;he highest scorer from that time until April 1.
