Howe, who spoke on "Science Re making the Woild,” heie recently “Theio is no incentive for food to be made in concentrated form since people would lather 3it down to a good beefsteak than take a pill for their nourishment," the scientist said. “Polar expeditions and armies might find use for such food, but otheis wouldn’t want it.” Dr Howe believes that houses made of glass, as arc sometimes prophes ied, will not be built because of heat ing difficulties Buildings without windows and lighted artificially will be common in the future, while houses will be more comfortable in the sum mer because of improved cooling de vices, the speaker said, “Faster transportation will make great suburban distncts,” the scion- MEEK ’32 SELECTED AS NEW PLAYERS PRESIDENT Page M 2, Beidler ’33, Anderson ’32, Garmcn *33 Gain Positions Potei G Meek ’32 was elected president of the Penn State Players for next yeur at a meeting of the so ciety last Tuesday. Substitutes for w*ood and gasoline arc unnecessary*, in the opinion of Dr. Howe He believes that the pio duction of timber has practically caught up with the consumption, while gasoline can be synthesized from bituminous coal by a hydrogen ation process. As to the harnessing of solar energy, it is doubtful whether it would be profitable even if a meth od could be discovered since as long ns we have coal and oil, it would not pay, Dr. Howe said. Airplanes will never replace other forms of transportation entirely, Dr. Howe claimed Uses will still be found for automobiles, railroads, and ships, even after air transportation is highly developed, he said.
