Furthermore, since we accumu late more ne.vs than we can actually print, we must use our Judgment in selecting that which will be o: the most interest to the greatest number of readers Everyone is urged to express his opinion frankly and freely through our Letter Box department and to us,. our reporters whenever occasion rises Running parallel to the broadening and expan sion of Penn State, the editorial policy of this paper must broaden in the same respect. The Collegian opposes unfair Censure and unjustifiable propaganda against the women students of this institution and lavers some antidote for the silly tradition that has annually become a means of adverse advertisement not only against the women students but against the College itself We advocate a movement that will enable stud ents to have some representation in selecting instruct ors, in discarding others and in voicing recognized opinion against courses that are deemed undesirable and stand for closer harmony between instructor mid instructed We defend our right of journalistic prerogative and hope to express our opinions and to pen our sir rote convictions independent of any outside influence St restraint We stand opposed to , arbitrary censor ship of Elul campus press and will, for our part, 'wel come guidance and counsel from our faculty and administrative superiors Convinced of his capabil ity as Penn State's leader and executive, we pledge unswerving loyalty to President Fletzel and to every thing for which he stands. IVET.COME AND ADVICE When the scores of visiting high school rootcis' begin pouring into State College this afternoon is cheer their respective teams entered in the inter schnlitsim hasketh ill tournament that is conducted here annually, a genuine demonstration of enthusiasm will, douhtless„twaken the Campus in this dull, un eventful season. School spirit will prevail and the staid, dignified college student, reserved by his col legiate training and wise in his advanced knowledge, will chuckle to note how frantically he once adhered to the athletic representatives of his high school. He may even forget his college reserve and allegiance and become converted once more to an ardent hacker 01 his lormer Alma Mater No spectacle is mole enjoyable or admirable than the gi owing youths, the future college students„gaily bedecked, vletng their cheers front opposite ends of the Amory, pi actising hero worship learning to swallow hitter disappointment or to celebrate happy viLtory 'I o these, Penn State opens wide her por tals, invites Inspection and offers her hospitably and service willingly For these, our guests and even our probable future students, to some cases, we may gladly inconvenience ourselves This happy throng is often accompanied by elder enthusiasts, men who are not students, but who are, nevertheless, adhesive to the various high school teams They arc as welcome as the students theni selevs providing they conduct themselves as becom ingly Last year, unfortunately, there were too many unsportsmanlike demonstrations among this group. Money was flashed too readily, too freely, too brazen ly Near riots' were too dangerously impending; drinking was too indiscriminate, rowdyism was too apparent 'The Campus was-converted to .a regular Havre de Grace by these unthinking few. It is hoped that the coming week-end will be au orderly one, that incoming students will discourage such resentful practises and demonstrations land that the guilty few will realire their-mistakes of last year and rectify them. As guests of Penn State, every visiting rooter is entitled to the College's privileges 1 of hospitality They will prove themselves appreci.t live guests it they use, not abuse, ahese courtesies. ....President Vlee-President Treasurer Editor-in-Chief Assistant Editor NI nagging Editor Ai.sociate Editor Associate Editor The .
