The masculine diner summoned the waitress and asked, "Will you please bring me a spoon° The peas slip aft my knife." It did not take long to farm an opinion of this man's upbringing and environment. It just goes to show that people judge us so much by first impressions. No matter how well one would know that man later, that first impression would never be forgotten Just such a simple little thing as table manners are.vastly more Im portant than or ahead of the mode, or wearing jewels or furs The girls are now observing eti quette week. The people in charge of the program are having among other things talks on etiquette in the Mac Hall dining room. Some people think that it is a very foolish idea. Why, they ask, do college girls need to be told how to use a knife and fork, or to eat layer cake with a fork and not the fingers? _ It isn't that everyone needs to be taught the rudiments of the art of dining nem behavior It is time that every girl should know them wl.en she gets to college. It is merely that the girls are being given a chance to check up on themselves, and to see that they are up to the standards. No girl should consider this week as an insult to her manners She should take it as an opportun ity to see if there is room for any improvement, for none of us is per fect, and to do all that she can 'to give people a good first impres sion Fireplace Wood, STATE COLLEGE FUEL & SUPPLY CO Phone 35-M For Service and Satisfaction The Martin & Kreamer Barber Shop' 128 E.
