It is a truism that some men have been elected to fill these positions and the full extent of their duties was a wall. to t he . office of the Athletic Association where they were graciously presented with class numerals - Those who arc in the know realize that class managerships are a farce as far as work and responsibilities arc concerned • A certain number of votes and one or two appearances at the scene of a partic ular encounter and "the award is yours for the asking " Is it any wonder that the honor and prestige attached to the wearing of num erals has deteriorated to such an e‘tent within the past few years' , Many solutions to the problem have been tittered but it appears that the most logical suggestion follows along tlie line of awarding class managerships to those who are unsuccessful in their quest for a varsity position The enforcement of this plan would certainly eliminate the huge Joke incident to the election of these men and would also give sonic recognition to those who are inore than deserv ing The appointment to these positions could be at the discretion of the varsity and assistant managers, subject to approval by athletic officials of the College, Freshman managerships fall to the same category but it is advisable that an upperclassman be appointed to supervise yearling athletic teams Fair phis , and over-generosity fail to go hand in hand For the mutual benefit of class numeral prestige and square dealing with. these who have labored and lost, it is imperative that some action be taken on this matter at once SENIOR TRADITIONS \Vhether or not the environment and ideal location of the Nit truly Valley tends to stifle true college traditions at Penn State, it is a well-known fact that there is a lack of the iceling which might nat urally be expected from seniors at this time of the year for the insti tution that has harbored them for four years In other colleges and universities throughout the country, those who are about to leave spend their last days in singing the praises of their Alma Mater and planning some idealistic remembrance to commemorate their love and respect Thet e are many ways in which the seniors could show their ap predation to Penn State and at the same time institute customs that will grow into lasting traditions At many colleges, one day a week throughout the month of May is devoted to senior singing at which time members of the graduating class gather on the front campus rid sing farewell to their Alma Mater The ceremonies are truly impressive and are said to be eagerly awaited by each succeeding class Another tradition that the seniors could institute wduld be the planting of t‘y around Watts and Varsity Halls The bare outside walls of these buildings should present a beautiful and imposing ap pearance—it remains For some class to take the initiative in starting the custom for future classes to carry on It will be interesting to note the effect that these suggestions will have on members of the student body, but see cannot help 'eel impressed at the thoughts of a group of seniors, gathered on the steps of Old Main, singing College songs in a lasting farewell to Penn State and Alma Mater The suggestions are offered WELCOME Oven this week-end Penn State will be host to more than three hundred guests, the participants in the annual interscholastic track meet To them the College extends the eager hand of friendship 'I he athletic association has made every possible provision for the smooth execution ..ot the meet itself but it remains for the student body to complete the combination and make the visit of these high school men an event in their lives to be remembered with enthusiasm. Penn State is universally known and admired for its hearty hos pitality, and that same hospitality is cordially offered the visiting trackinen Upon their impressions of the College and reports which they will spread among their friends throughout the State on their return depends in a great share Penn State's present prestige and fu me advancement Trackmen, - the College is yours, "Prexy" Explains To Alumni 1925 Commencement !!!!!!!=lll3 P.m, St an.. 4 nen ('ommententent l Met It ill in, de outlined In I I.
