The COLLEGIAN wishes to extend Its congratulations to these men and women who have completed then work at Penn State The term, Commencement, is an apt one For these graduates the simple exercises tonight will mark the end of their ,undergrad uate careers, but it is the beginning of a new period for them; that will end with a greater of less degree of success in this world Armed with the degrees that they base earned and a character that has been moulded by Penn State, certainly they are well equipped to face the dill culties that will confront them. Their chances for suc cess have been improved by their training in this institution So they will become part of that ever increasing body of stu dents who have graduated from this College and are known as Penn State men The achievements of its graduates have done much to give Penn State a high standing as a place of preparation for suc cessful work in the various fields of human endeavor. May, these wacluates and those of future )ears, add further prestige to ibis in stitution. The COLLEGIAN wishes these men and women a full measure of success and happiness in life May Penn State be to them an in spiration and a memory of years well spent NN'ORK YOUR PLAN "Plan your work, then work lour plan " Here is excellent ad vice ler the beginning of a new semester Carried out in an ideal manner. it would result in a system uhcrein the student would have a definite time of the day or week set aside for the preparation of each subject on his schedule It is the exceptional man or woman. however, si ho can carry out such a plan To look for such rigid dis cipline on the part of the average undergraduate is useless. With final examinations completed, there is a natural feeling of i chef and relaxation With many students this period is stretched out until it becomes one of laziness and shiftlessness The weeks stip by with little work accomplished and once more the approach of final examinations hangs over the undergraduate as did the sword user the head of Damocles in the fables of ancient Greece Quite rt ten th'e sword falls, and one more student has flunked out of col lege Certainly there are many students in this institution who could increase their study period an e‘tra hour each day without running the risk of suffering a nervous break-down Many members of the faculty will agree that not enough studying is done Some behexe that too much time is deaoted to campus activities; others point to the movies that are crowded every night; still others place the blame en too many social functions None of these distractions, are to he blamed, howevei, for the lack cf hard study It is very seldom that one hears of a student prominent in campus and other activities, troubled by scholastic difficulties These men find tnat the more work they are compelled to do, the more they can ac complish The answer to the real cause of low scholarship is too much loafing The student comes home front class full of good reso lutions to "get out" lots of work, but the chances arc he will be come myrked in a "talk-session," card game, or whatnot, and once more the hooks will not be cracked for that day To those students who are in the habit of waiting until exams for a period of feverish preparation, we offer the plan of carrying out each day's assignment as it is given. And there is a guarantee that if the student works this plan, he will be surprised at the amount of knowledge that he has obtained from the course THE CALL OF BUSINESS Sonic people find a peculiar fascination in the arts and as,a result we have punters, decorators and musicians, others find complete sat isfaction in the pursuit of sonic profession. But if you are one of that large cart of the freshman class which, upon graduating from this College will feel perfectly contented to enter business, that exciting prime of garnering the elusive dollar, then here is an announcement that will be of interest to you The Penn State COLLEGIAN has issued a call for freshman candidates for its business staff The first meeting of _these aspirants will he field tonight at seven o'clock at the COLLEGIAN office. If you have a hankering to manage a business, this is an 'opportunity to gain some valuable experience Cent' oiled and published by Penn State students, the COLLEG IAN is a business firm The problems-that confront the members of its staff arc typical of these that must be solved in the business world. The new men will be put through ,a short course in the rudiments of salesmanship and advertising. Then they be given ,plenty of opportunity to practice what they have learned. The result will be expenence that will be well-worth the effort involved And so, for the freshman who wishes to engage in ,n campus act ivity that will be of material benefit to him, this call has been issued. 14,14tnnt MUM, Mln Iglng rmco 71 A Shlner . 2tl A 1: Smith '2G I=2 All" lII.Ing 31 in t get I. ill 111 I i ht. \I 1111401 IMiQE=fl W I.
