Member of lulcrcolleglnto Newspaper Association WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, 1020 Mny Dny and hundreds ol visitors at Penn State, both to par ticipate in the various events and to witness them, bear a particular influence on the character of the student bodies at Penn State m the fututre. At all these events men will be given the opportunity For competing in true Penn State style and for witnesing in the varsity and fraternity events fmther c\amp!es of the way the Blue and White "plays fair ” In order to become a college classed with the first in every sport she participates in, Penn State must have among her students tnen who can place her there This annual May Day celebration is just such an occasion as will bring men here. It is nt this time that the high school students obtain their views of Penn State and her stu dents. Let us sec that every student plays fair, that no word may come back of how some man at Penn State failed to live up to the time honored customs By this it is meant that such actions as the re cent ones for the special benefit of the Lafayette pitcher should be tabooed, not only lor this occsion, but for all time Penn State students know that that sort ol thing is not true to Penn State life and ideals and that it should not be tolerated here Let us hope that at this Mny day celebration, where the whole college rejoices and joins in play with its visitors, that no student may act in a way to belittle or endanger the great name ol his Alma Mater. Today marks the twellth anniversary of the residence of President Sparks in State College Tor twelve years he has served the college, country, state, and families luithlully by giving to each one the things which arc best and light in his estimation Not only has his own name been classed among the leading educators of the times but he has placed Penn Stte on a pedestal among the other colleges of the land. He has been on the job through thick and thin, through success and failure and each time has led the college toward the front with the entire student body not only behind him but also beside him If Penn State can advance as much m the uc\t twelve years as it has in the past it will not only be among the leading but the leading college m the country and the greatest thing we'can hope lor Penn State is a president and leader of the same ability and attitude ns our depart ing president. The COLLEGIAN wishes President Sparks the suc cess which he has given to the college to be brought back to lnm sevenfold in the luture.
