Happenings About Town In g'ancing through the pages of the local newspaper we have noted the following items which may or may not be of general interest: The temperance forces are un abashed, having scored a signal victory in Congress recently by showing a majority of eight votes on a certain measure concerned al most directly with the liquor ques tion. Also in the same connection, we note that Judge Orvis defends his right to grant licenses to such persons as he thinks worthy. “Pop” Golden has achieved great success in the insurance field. The Farmers’ Trust company has likewise achieved great success through other people’s fields. The Parent-Teacher association is growing in grace, comliness and interest, but like everything else is sadly in need of money. The officers of the local camp 5997, Royal Neighbors of America, were publicly installed about a week ago, and the glorious occa sion was torped off with refresh ments and toasts. Adam Sunday was last week placed in confinement, to say it del icately, having confessed to taking eight dollars from the till of the State College Bakery. Basketball Officials Meet. The executive committee of the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Basket ball league met at the Common wealth Hotel, Harrisburg, on Satur day January 30, for the purpose of making definite arrangements for the playing of post season cham pionship games between the win ners of the eastern, central and western sections of the league. The league is composed of Swarthmore, Lehigh and Lafayette in the eastern section; Albright, Bucknell, Gettysburg and Susque hanna in the central sectionjand Pitt, W. and J. and Penn State in the western section. This league, which has done much to foster basketball in this state, awards annually to the sec tional winners a banner, and to the champions a large silver cup. As to the place of play-off for these championship games, the location of the colleges winning their respective division champion ships will govern to a great extent. However, the committee reduced the possibilities to six, of which three will necessitate the games being played at Harrisburg; one will necessitate the games being played at South Bethlehem and two chances of the games being played at State College. In selecting the places of play-off, it was the committee’s plan to secure a college floor if it was at all possible, and at the same time have a neutral one and one that would equalize the expenses of the teams competing as nearly as possible. It was decided by toss up that the winners of the central and west ern sections should play the first I post season championship game and the winner of that game play the winner of the eastern section, for the championship of the state. The general plan of he league was also outlined by the executive committee, and steps taken to make the games more uniform as played in the different sections The matter of securing competent officials was also considered.
