The Band Mr. Thompson is very optimistic regarding band prospects for this year. The first regular rehearsal was held last Wednesday evening and everything went off splendidly. The material is good and even more abundant than had been ex pected, 57 men being now on the roll with the possibility of a couple additions later. The aim of a6O piece organization will in all prob ability be realized. The first con cert will be given in the early part of November and by that time it is predicted that we will have a band excelled by none of former years. Mr. Thompson will also have charge of the orchestra. Trials were held Monday evening. The organization of the field and bugle corps is to be taken up today, We inesday. Forum Society The Forum Society held its reg ular weekly meeting in Room K, Library last Tuesday evening. The day of meeting has been Tuesday thus far, but an amendment was offered for changing to Wednes day. An open meeting is planned for the near future and is to be fol lowed by a feed. The program for next time will include a recitation by J. R. Harris, current events by W. S. Bollinger and D. S. Adams and an account of a trip west by A. J. Morrison. Agricultural Society A special social meeting of the Ag. society was held last Thursday evening. L. R. Zeisenheim, man ager of the fair, gave a report of the plans for this years celebration; and Dean Watts and Professor Kains gave short talks. Last but not least came a two course ban quet of cider and pretzels. The society will meet regularly every other Tuesday. Company K to Feed. Company K, composed of Fresh men, has planned to hold a cider, apple and pretzel feed in the woods opposite Beaver field next Saturday night. A bonfire will be on the program. It is the purpose of those back of the movement to get the Freshmen "Heps" in Company K better acquainted with each other. Liberal Arts Society Meeting The Liberal Arts Society held an almost purely business meeting last Friday evening in Room K of the Library. Scholarship Cup The Inter-fraternity Scholarship cup, presented each semester to the fraternity whose members average the highest in scholastic standing, was presented to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity last week. This was the second time the Phi Delta Theta’s have been awarded the cus tody of the cup, and to date it is the only fraternity having that hon or. Y. M. C. A. Gleaning. Owing to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances, “Bob” Gailey was not able get here until Friday of last week. His stay, although shorter than had been expected, was none the less profitable. He was quite interest ed in our farms and hopes to intro duce scientific agriculture into the mission schools in Peking. Deutscher Verien will hold its first meeting in the Old Chapel, 7 o’clock, Friday evening, October 9. Mr. V. R. Jones will give a very interesting talk on “Personal Ex periences in Germany during the Beginning of the War”. Everyone who is interested in German songs, customs, language and activities, is welcome to attend. Mark Huber, freshman treasurer, collected about $2OO in class dues at the class meeting in Old Chapel last week.
