The first 0146 e visited was in the U. S. Mint in Philadelphia, where they saw the /ocess of making gold and silver coin from the prepared metal. From here they went to the Bethle hem Steel' Works Pi owned and oper ated by Chatles Schwab, and spent half a day in the open hearth de partment. .Two full days were given to inspecting the United Metals Re fining Co., at Chrome, N. J., which is chiefly prominent for its output of copper. The most important point of the trip was the Raritan Copper Co. at Perth Amboy, N. J., which is the largest icopper refinery 1 )0 in the w rld, having' a pail), output of 600, pounds of this metal. Other laces visited were The Americ Smelting Co. at Newark, N.
