It is scarcely necessary to say that the letter quoted below comes from - the versatile pen of our friend "foe" Mason, 'O7. It covers the situation so well that we quote it verbatim, wishing to give credit to the one who stood ever ready, with pen or baseball bat, to' bring renown to Penn State. "The nearer the Bucknell game gets to us, the more strongly we feel that . State must win, no matter whether our Varsity is crippled or not. The good old Penn State spirit will bring us victory ; for every undergrad, and every alumnus, no matter if he be a thousand miles away, has his heart behind Captain McCleary and his men. On Nov. 7th, when our team dashes upon Beaver Field every man in the quad housand faithful sons of State be- THE STATE COLLEGIAN will feel the loyal impulse of two hind his every effort, and, urged on by such a purpose and such a spirit, our Varsity cannot lose. "Merely mention the name "Buck nell" to any old alumnus, and see the "old boy's" eyes brighten with loyalty to Alma Mater, and thrilling memories of the struggles of past years ; how Captain "Henny" Scholl carried the pigskin in ten suc cessive plunges over Bucknell's goal line; how "Eddie" Wood jumped clear through Bucknell's bass-drum; how "Spiker" Dodge carried five Bucknellites on his' back over the line for the winning score; or how "Pud" Read worked the centre kick for a victory, but what's the use, there s too much to tell here. Ask "Andy" Lytle, or "Heine" Grimm, and either of them will give you the historic incidents of the State Buck nell struggles for twenty years back. "When our guests from Bucknell come here we will treat them with every courtesy and hospitality, nevetheless, we cannot forget for an instant that our team must defeat Bucknell's and we will do it square ly and cleanly, by straight, hard, State football." "Now that the Penn State game has been played, and we were the losers, tootbali interest seems to have taken on a great slump. Students here do not seem to realize that a team to win must have the hearty cooperation of the stuaent body under all circumstan ces. The spirit at State is not to "knock." They almost worship the football player, and to be a member of the team is one of the highest honors which a man can ob tain." —West Virginia Athenaeum. Very true, And if we. can come to realize that this same principle of "sticxing" holds true not only in football but in every other depart ment of college life, there will be fewer defeats-and failures.
