LOCALS. Among last week's visitors at the college were F. S. Schuyler, 'O7, and C. F. Noll, 'O6. On Dec. 21, Prof. Churchill was married to Miss Natalie Lawrence Ayars at Wilkes-Barre. The bride is a sister to Prof. Ayars and is well known in State College. Swarthmore has postponed final decision on the Jeanes bequest pend ing a report on the value of the lands involved. Indications point to the refusal of the bequest and the re tention of intercollegiate athletics. Eight students have been enrolled for the short course in Home Eco nomics which will continue for twelve weeks. Miss Mabel Mac- Do well, a graduate of Michigan Agricultural college, will assist Miss Waugh during this period. Among the pleasant events of the holiday season was the marriage of Walter H. Wood, ex-'ll, and Miss Sadie Dunn, sister of W. T. Dunn, 'OB, which occurred on Dec. 21. After a wedding trip to Indiana, they will reside in Altoona, where Mr. Wood has a position with the Pennsylvania Railroad. What might have proyed a very serious accident occurred during last Sunday's chapel service, when a piece of the plaster ceiling decora tion fell,striking Mrs. Robert Foster, and Mr. Braman of the agricultural department. The injuries, though painful, will probably not prove serious. The morning chapel ser vices are being omitted until a care ful inspection of the entire ceiling can be made. On the Friday evening before the holiday vacation Dr. Frank J. Pond, '92, of Stevens Institute, gave an illustrated lecture on "Methods of Water Gas Manufacture," befo: e the Berzelius Society. The lecture, while very plain and prac tical, covered the work thoroughly and showed the speaker's familiarity with his subject. The many friends of Prof. J. H. Leete, who was formerly registrar of the college, will be glad to learn P __EO of his promotion to the assistant directorship of the Carnegie Tech nical Schools. - A daughter was born on Dec. 10, 1907, to Albert A. Wert, 'O3, and Mrs. Clara Wyman Wert, who was formerly instructor in music at the college. Prof. P. 0. Ray has a review of B. A.
