State Vol. 11, No. 16, Athletic Meeting At a meeting of the Athletic Asso ciation last Saturday evening the question of resuming athletic rela tions with Bucknell was brought up and discussed thoroughly, pro and con. There has seemed to be a general feeling among the student body that there exists no good rea son why State should not - meet Bucknell in athletic contests, inas much as the feeling due to the con troversy of- several years ago has died out, and it is evident that the resuming of such relations would be beneficial to both colleges. After much discussion a motion was made and carried, that we resume athletic relations with Bucknell. It is now up to the Bucknell Faculty. It is not known yet whether or not a baseball game can be scheduled for this year, but there seems.to be no real obstacle in the way now to pre vent the healthy growth of a friend ly, sportmanlike rivalry between the two colleges. The question of medals for ‘ ‘S’ ’ men on the football team was brought up, Wilson 'O7 making a report as to bids received from two firms for such medals. It was finally decided that the committee take up this matter again, and find out the cost of medals for all four of our athletic teams. Heaton, basketball captain, spoke of the need of baskets in the Armory, and the General Athletic Manager was instructed to procure the same at once. The old ones have been in poor condition for some time. By the new arrangement the backboards and baskets will be suspended from the beams above, thus keeping the baskets always in place, and elim inating the danger from knocking STATE COLLEGE, PA., FEBRUARY 1, 1906, over the posts. It was further de cided that all “rough house play’’ between halves should be discon tinued on account of the dust raised and the consequent discomfort to the teams. The proposed amendments to the constitution were read before the As sociation and were laid on the table to await action at the next meeting. The Basketball Trip, Tomorrow morning the basket ball team accompanied by Physical Director Golden will leave on its eastern trip. The first game will be played tomorrow evening with Le high University at South Bethlehem. Lehigh has a good combination of players this year and a good hot game is looked for. On Saturday evening Penn wdl be met at the University gym in Phila delphia. Penn’s team this year is probably the best she has ever had. She has completely defeated Prince ton and just last week ‘ ‘put it all over” Yale. While the- boys do not expect to repeat their victory of last year they are determined to make Penn work hard for all she gets. Sunday will be spent in Philadelphia. The boys will leave Sunday evening on 11.40 sleeper. Some time during the night of Saturday, January 20, -the dam re cently . constructed for skating purposes, broke on the north side of the overflow. The cellars of houses in the vicinity were flooded but otherwise no damage was done to adjacent property. At the spot where the break occurred there were no timber or stone reinforcements and it looks very much as if the build er is responsible for the accident. ollegian. Last Saturday morning the senior electricals left on the seven o’clock train from Lemont for their inspec tion trip, which this year includes New York,Trenton and Philadelphia. Professor Wood accompanied them and Professor Jackson joined them later, as soon as he was able to'leave his duties here. They arrived in New York Saturday night, spent Sunday there, and began their work of inspection Monday morning. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were spent in New York; Thursday will be spent in Trenton, and Fri day and Saturday in Philadelphia. Saturday night they will attend in a body the State —Penn basketball game in U. of P. gymnasium. The inspecting is done in the mornings and afternoons and the fellows have the evenings to themselves. They are expected back from Philadel phia Monday morning. This inspection trip takes in all of the large power plants, electrical manufacturing establishments, and electrical railway systems in the cites visited; and it gives the fellows some knowledge of the machinery used and of the work done in the largest plants in the country. Everything that is of interest to electrical engineers is visited, and studied; and this trip forms a valua ble practical supplement to the four year’s theoretical training that the men have had. This trip generally comes the week before the Christmas vacation, but as the necessary arrangements were not made in time, it was post- poned until the first week in the second semester,
