LOCALS General Beaver attended chapel services last Sunday. The first robins appeared on the campus during the last week. Wm. H. Slater ’O7, has recovered from a light attack of tonsilitis and grip- “Bob” White ’O5 has been at his home in Jermyn, Pa., for some time. E. Fawkes ’O6 was confined to his room several days last week with the grippe. The Industrial Chemists held an impromptu banquet at Harvey’s on Friday last. H. C. Ray, 'O4, instructor in Mineralogy, is laid up with a bad attackof the grippe. THE STATE COLLEGIAN The Senior Miners spent a very enjoyable evening at the home of Dr. M. E. Wadsworth last Friday. W. Y. Heaton, ’O6 has been nurs ing a sore tooth for the last few days, perhaps the result of ‘ ‘ break ing training. ” By unanimous action of the stu dent body on Monday morning last it was decided to “keep off the grass” during the spring months. Cotrell and Leonard of Albany, N. Y., are makers of fine caps and gowns. Any of the Seniors look ing around for the same, might do worse than look up these people. The York Club is setting a good pace for the city organizations. The members have rented a suite of rooms above Harvey’s bakery which they are furnishing in good shape for reading and general club purposes. The members of the basketball team assembled at Harrison’s last Saturday evening and enjoyed a banquet. Captain Dunn acted as toastmaster and called on all the fellows for toasts. The following men were present, Capt. Dunn, Heaton, Yeckley, Foltz, Moorhead, Kilmer, Caswell, Quigley, Bums. Manager Williams and assistant Manager King. The Debating Club met in 367 Saturday evening. The following question was discussed, “Resolved: that, the free elective system is the best available plan for the under graduate course of study.” The following men-debated; on the affir mative, P. A. Rainey 'O7, R. L. Slocum ’O5, H. M. Braucher ’OB, J. S. Spicer ’O6. On the negative, J. M. McDowell ’O7, F. O. Tawney 'O7, W. F. H. Wentzel ’OB, A. M. Myers ’OB. The long talked about “Pittsburg Club” first saw the light at about 6:26 last Tuesday evening in Room 20 Engineering Building. Over 40 Pittsburgers were in attendance, and the following officers were elected : President, Fife ; Vice President, Slo cum ; Secretary, Mason ; Treasurer, Stewart. A picture of the “Smoky City” delegation will be taken Satur day noon at 1 o’clock at the Audi torium for the “La-Vie” and all residents of Pittsburg and vicinity are earnestly requested to report. Miss Florence Brown, secretary to the President, gave a euchre party on Friday evening. Miss Brown, assisted by the ladies of the Cot tage proved a charming hostess and all present spent a most enjoyable evening. Miss Ansart won the ladies’ first prize and Mr. D. A. Elias was the winner of the gentle men's first prize. Last Wednesday evening the mem bers of the Phi Delta Theta Fratern ity drove to Pine Grove Mills where the party of eighteen were delight fully entertained at the home of Rev. and Mrs. C. T. Aikens. On the return, the bus in which nine of the party traveled was overturned at a steep hill just beyond the Pine Hall churches. The driver was able to control the team and no serious in juries were received. Prof. I. L. Foster, however, who was a mem ber of the party, received a bad cut above the eye but the sight was not affected. Appropriation Committees Coming. The Appropriation Committees of both the Senate and the Assembly will in all probability visit State Col lege, either the latter part of this week or the beginning of next. In past years it has been the custom for committees to come separately, but this year it is understood that Dr. Atherton is endeavoring to make arrangements to have them come in a body. A list of the visiting mem bers will be posted so that students from the various counties may have an opportunity to arrange in advance to see or entertain their representa tives.
