    Basket Ball
The Varsity basket ball team
played the first game of the season
at Altoona. Dec. 16, and were de
feated by the score of 23 to 16.
.The game- was played in a very
small cage, which in addition to the
fact that it was Altoona’s home
floor, proved a handicap too great
for State to overcome. The con
test was very rough.

both' Mr. r Golden and Manager
Stamm were out of town when this
issue'went to press, the statement
here made could not be verified: —
State College, Pa., Dec. 29. —Ef-
forts are being made by the athle
tic authorities here to secure a base-
ball coach of national reputation and
it seems probable that fielder Jones,
of the Chicago Americans, will be
the man.

treal and Buffalo last season, and is
a former State College athlete, will
als'o cohch the White and Blue can
