and we hope that no offence will be taken by those fraterni ties that are not guilty. Tat desirability of changing the college yell has been brought forth year after year, but as yet no definite action has been taken toward such a revision. A reform of any kind is never the result of an easy transition from the old way to a more desirable one. There are delays from one time to another until the matter either is abandoned en tirely or some unusual action is at once taken. And so it is with the changing of our yell. But this department wouldn't be fulfilling its func tions if it didn't give expression to matters of general concern to the College. We may first ask why a change in the form of our yell is desirable. Any person who is well acquainted with it, and is a judge of the qualities that belong to a good yell can easily detect some of the weaknesses of our slogan. First, it is too long and involved. A short cheer with plenty of "go" and snap is far better and expressive than such a lengthy one. Observing the yells of the larger colleges, it is found that most of them are no longer than our class cheers, and some much shorter. It is also hard for our new men to learn, without mentioning outsiders. In the next place it is not wholly original. The greater part, we may say, is the product of our own invention, but the authors of it seemed to 'think that some foreign fragments might strengthen its qualities and with such a belief wove them into the texture of the yell. Of course it is easy to suggest something alto gether original, but not always easy to put into practice. It may further be said that in several places in the yell there is 4. + +
