The first regular game ever played by a team representing State was in the fall of ’ 81, when some of our boys decided to show Bucknell how to play foot ball. We have been unable to get any definite information concerning the game except that we accomplished our object, and, as we have done on many subse quent occasions, administered defeat to our old-time rivals. After this game we never played a regular game until ’B7, when we defeated Buckuell twice. The Bucknell-State game played at Lewisburg on October 27, 1888, was not finished, because our boys objected to a decision of the umpire. It is interesting to note the results of our games with Lafayette, whom we defeated three times, and by whom we were defeated twice. Will anyone who saw the 72-0 game ever forget what a surprise the result was to the adherents of both teams, especially to those of Lafayette ? Our games with Lehigh may also awaken fond recollections — for Lehigh at least. In ’BB they defeated us by a score of 30-0; in ’B9 by 106-0; and in ’9l by 24—2. We have never had a game with them since ’9l, but if we were to do so this year one of the previous scores would very likely be reversed. In ’9l we won the State Intercollegiate Championship, having scored 170 points to our opponents’ 22. Lehigh was not a member of the Association that year. A tie score was averted in the Buck nell game by Bucknell’s men crowding around Cartwright and preventing his kicking goal. A "scrap” ensued, and our team and rooters were stoned out of Lewisburg. Taken all in all, our past record has not been one of which any of us need be ashamed. Let us but hope that our'future record will be as good. The Free Lance .
