With this number the Free Fance enters upon a new exist
ence—an existence which we hope will be a creditable one. It
has been enlarged and the form changed. This change, which
breaks an established custom of nearly ten years, is made after a
careful and earnest consideration.
When the present staff assumed their duties they imagined the
Free IvANCE to be a typical college journal and a worthy repre
sentative; but the fact that we were behind the times in college
journalism was strikingly apparent when we compared the Tance
with many of our exchanges. We discovered that our form was
