WITH this issue the management of the FREE LANCE has passed into the hands of the newly elected staff. It is, perhaps, needless to say that we will endeavor to keep the paper up to its former standard of excellence and to continue its past policy, to be, as it should, the representative organ of the students and Alumni of our college. Further than this we can make no promises but will leave it to our friends to judge later whether our efforts have been fruitful or Otherwise. . . .. . It must be remembered, however, that much of STATE COLLEGE, PA., APRIL, 189 x. A. C. READ, 92. the success of our journal depends upon the Alum ni and students, and we ask for their continued support both by subscriptions to the paper and by contributions to its various departments. In the past too much has been left to the staff and but few contributions, of literary articles es pecially, have been received from the body of the students. We sincerely hope that in the future such will not be the case, but that the students will remember that the FREE LANCE is the medium through which they should make known their opinions on subjects of interest to college men, and thus aid in making this volume of the College paper more interesting than any pre vious one. * * THE Editors feel that it would be an;injustice, indeed, were they to publish this issue without some recognition of the services which Mr. Camp, the retiring editor, rendered the LANCE. Probably no editor of the paper before him had such a difficult task, handicapped as ho was by having under him a staff the composition of which was continually changing. At the close of his term of office there was but one man on the staff besides himself who had served over six months, and several times vacancies occurred at such period as rendered it ,necessary . for Mr. Camp to do, not only his own, but the work of another department. We thank him for having, after encountering so much discouragement, turned the paper over to us in its present prosperous condition. * * * ON April aoth, Col. J. P. Sanford is engaged to lecture in the College Chapel for the benefit of the Athletic Association. Col onel:Sanford is a speaker of national reputation and it will be worth the While of every student in No. i.
