COLLEGE ORBIT The first number of the Princeton College Bulletin is out. It is the official journal of the college and is edited by President Patton. The Dartmouth faculty has decreed that either base-ball or foot-ball must be dropped, on the ground that too much time is given to athletics. Prof. J. D. Dana, of Yale, will deliver a course of lectures on “Evolution” in the near future, The new Medico-Chirurgical and Philadel phia Dental Colleges, on Cherry St. near 18th, were dedicated January 26. Millionaire Jacob Tome, of Maryland, will give $2,500,000 for the establishment of an industrial school for girls and boys, $500,000 will be expended in buildings and necessary apparatus, the remaining $2,000,000 to be in vested and thus support the school through the income. Assistant Inspector Gen. Roger Jones, U. S. A.,, died at Fort Monroe on January 26. Prest. Magill, of Swarthmore College has re ceived a letter from James Russell Lowell, in which the latter states that he has abandoned his trip to Philadelphia. THE FREE LANCE. Brown University is to have a scries of lec tures on subjects connected with municipal governments and history. The annual boat race between Oxford and Cambridge will take place on March 30. Only 175 of the 380 universities and colleges in the United States publish papers. Harvard’s crew at present averages 17 1 pounds, Twenty men arc in training for the Yale nine; the ’Varsity crew have been practicing on the water for the last few weeks. Harvard is already training men for next year’s foot-ball team. They work in the gym nasium one hour a day under the supervision of Lears and Cunnock. Lears, the Harvard champion tennis player, is training in the gymnasium for the spring tournaments. At Amherst the number of students has been limited by the trustees to 300, The new chapel at Pennsylvania college, Gettysburg, is to be known as the Bruce Me morial. It will have a seating capacity of 750 and will be completed by September, 1889, The Hon. Chaunccy M.
