The IlArrY Family At an adjourn ed meeting of the Happy Family, held a few days ago, they came to tho conclusion that their labor during the last campaign was in vain. They said they had spent their time, their means (over the left), had filled up the entire north of tho county with crippled horses and broken buggies, and yet that neither one of them, not withstanding the suggestion of 'llex," had received cither the key, the ash pan, or the broom cf the Prothonotary's office. They thought it too bad ; and moreover thought it still worse that the very person who gave them all the trouble in the north was installed as Deputy Prothonotary. The noise and confusion in the lodge ex cited the II S , who plainly told the Family, in few words, to remain quiet; that he had the gift of power to give or refuse the respective offices in the county ; that the new Prothonotary needed an as sistant, and that he thought neither one of the II. F. competent to fill the post at the present time ; and, further, that Z must have nothing mre to do there, as he had tried him in his Democratic balances and found him wanting wherefore, they must be reconciled with his appointment of a Depy. To the Editors of The Alleghanian : Sanford's opera troupe played to good houses in the new Union Hall nearly two weeks, and departed for Philipsburg on Thursday last. The new iron bridge connecting Cam bria and Millville boroughs has been completed, and is now open for travel. llev. E. A. Brindley delivered a dis course, entitled the "Healing of Capt. Naaman," at the first Methodist church on Sunday evening. The ladies connected with the fair of the new German Catholic church are ac tively engaged making preparations for that event. It promises to be one of the grandest ever held in this place. I advise those of your readers who want to put in a good time about the holidays to drop in and see it. A young man, whose name I could not learn, had an arm badly bruised the other day by a lump of iron ere. falling on it at one of the blast furnaces of the C. I. Company. The snow is some eighteen inches deep, and is still coming. The sleighing is ex cellent, and the livery men are reaping a harvest. The burglars who entered the Compa ny's store have not been apprehended. Yours, &c., DiO. LETTER FROM CAKEOLL TOWNSRIP PLENTY OF SNOW AN ELOPEMENT, 4C. Carroll Tp., Dec. 7, 1SC8. To the Editors oj The Alleghanian : The past week has been prolific of at least plenty of snow. Some two feet cover the ground, and of course there is plenty of sledding. In the matter of local items, it has not been quite so prolific. Howev er, we have had a real elopement, a return of the happy pair, and, best of all, a rec onciliation all around. The pleasant re sult is certainly not unpleasant now, but I may say that it is not a frequent occur rence that an only parent, and a lone one at that, can so easily satisfy himself that "all's for the best." You will please consider this No. 1 of a series of communications from the north of the county which I hope to make in teresting to your readers. L. W. E. Beyond the Mississirri. HOOFLAND S LrERM AN BITTERS -Axrr HOOFLAND'S GERXfAtf TONIC, The Great Remedies for all Disrnsca of tt Li i'er, Stomach or Digestive Organs-s nOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS Is composed of the pure juices (or, as they are medicinally termed. Extracts) of Roots, Herbs, and Barks, making a prepara tion, highly concentrated, and entirely free from alcoholic admixture of any kind. HOOFLAND'S GERMAN TONIC Is a combination of all the ingredients of the Bitters, with the purest quality of Sant Cruz Rum, Orange, Ac, making one of tho most pleasant, ngfteable remedies ever of fered to the public. Those preferring a Medicirat free from Al coholic Admixture, will ue HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS. Those Mho haie no objection to the com bination of the Bitters, us stated, will ua HOOFLAND'S GERMAN TONIC. They are both equally good, and contafp ' the same medicinal virtues, the choice be tween the two being a mere matter of taste, the Tonic being the most palatable. The stomach, from a variety of cauFCf , such as Indigestion, Dyspepsia, Nervous De bility, etc., is very apt to have its functions deranged. The Liver, sympathizing as close- . ly as it docs with the g Stomach theft be comes afFeetcd, the result of which ia " that the patient suffers from several or mord of the following diseases: Constipation, Flatulence, Inward Tiles, Fulness of Blood to the Head, Acidity of tho Stomach, Nausea, Heartburn, Disgust for . Food, Fullness or Weight in the Stomach, Sour Eructations, Sinking or fluttering at the pit of the Stomach, Swimming of tho Head, Hurried or Difficult Breathing, Flut tering at the Heart, Choking or Suffocating Sensations when in a Ijing posture, Diranes of vision, Dots or webs before the sight, dull pain in the Head, Deficiency of Perspiration, Yellowness of the Skin and Eyes, Pain in tho Side, Back, Chest, Limbs, etc., Sudden Flush es of Heat, Burning in the Flesh, Constant Imaginings of Evil, and great depression of Spi rits. The sufferer from these diseases should exercise the greatest caution in the selection of a remedy for his case, purchasing only that which he is assured from his investiga tions and inquiries, O possesses true mer it, skilfully compounded, is free from injuri ous ingredients, and established for itself ft reputation for the cure of these diseases. In this connection we would submit those well known remedies Iloofland's German Bitters , and Hoofland's German Tome, prepared by DR. C. M. JACKSON, PHILADELPHIA, PA. Thirty-five years since thev were first in troduced into this country from German, during which time they have undoubtedly performed more cures, and benefitted suffer ing humanity to a greater extent, than any other remedies known to the public. These remedies will effectually cire Livor Complaint, Jaundice. Dyspepsia, Chronic ot Nervous Debility, "JT" Chronic Diarrhoea, Disease of the Kidneys, and all diseases aris ing from a disordered Liver, Stomach or In testines. DEBILITY RESULTING FROM ANY CAUSE whatever ; Prostration of the System, in- duced by Severe Labor, Hardships, Exposure, Fever, &c. -There is no medicine extant equal to thesfl remedies in such case's. A tone and vigor is imparted to the whole system, the appe tite is strengthened, food is enjoyed, tha stomach digests propcrlj, the blood is puri fied, the complexion-becomes sound and healthy, the yellow tinge is eradicated from the eyes, a bloom is given to the cheeks, and the weak and nervous "invalid becomes a strong and healthy being. PERSONS ADVANCED IN LIFE, And feeling the hand of time weighing heav ily upon them, with all ifs attendant !11, will find in the use of this Bitters, or tho Tonic, an elixir that will instil new life into their veins, restore in a measure the energy and ardor of more youthful days, build up their shrunken forms, and give health' and happiness to their remaining years. NOTICE! It is a well established fact that fully one-, half of the female portion of our population are seldom in the enjoyment of good health, cr, to use their own TT expression, "never feel well." They are languid, devoid of all energy, extremely nervou3, and h&ve no ap petite. To this class of persons the Bitters, or tho Tonic, is especially recommended. WEAK AND DELICATE CHILDREN Are made strong by the use of either of these remedies. They will cure every caso of MARASMUS, without fail. Thousands of certificates have accumula ted in the hnr.ds of the proprietor, bnt space will allow of the publication of but a few. Those, it will be obscrved, are from men of note, and of such standing that they must be believed. TESTIMONIALS: Hon. Geo. W. Woodward,.
