Good ton -Fouty" Tunes. A SEefbj, Indian's, paper' says' : Organs in churches h&vo become very fashionable of late. In almost every cbnrcb you go into, you will find one of these instruments. -'A iricnd of ours, who Uvea in a neighboring villagbhas related to us an amusing in cident in this, connection -which occurcd in their church. To be in fashion, they concluded they znust have an organ. ' The, congregation could Dot 'afford to pay an organist, so they got a selt-actiog organ, a compact instrument, well buited to the jmrpose, and constructed to play forty tunes. The eexton had instructions how to set it &o ing, and how to stop it; but, unfortu nately, he forgot the latter part .-of his business. Sunday came, and the choir sans four verses of a hymn, but the organ could not be stopped, and continued play ing two verses more. Then, just as the clergyman had completed the words, "let us pray," the organ gave a click and started on another tunc. .The sexton assisted by the malo body of the choir exerted themselves energeti cally to find the secret spring by which to stop the organ. Hut in vain. It play ed on, on, on, as soon as one tune was fioished, another beginning. So four of the 6t6utc3tmeu in the church shouldered the perverse instrument and carried it outside, where it continued clicking and playing until it had finished the entire lorty tunes. TnEM's 'Em. We often hear of re markable cases of absence of mind. The following is equal to anything of the kind on record : "I say, Cap'n," said a little, keen eyed man, as he landed from the steamboat Potomac at Natchez, "I say, cap'n, this here ain't all my -baggage." 'That's all the baggage you brought on board, sir' replied the cap'taio. "Well, see now, I grant it all O. K. ac cording to the list four boxes, three chests, two ban' boxes, a portmanty, two hams, one of them part cut, three ropes of inyons, and a teakettle; but you see, cap'n, somehow cr ruther it runs in my mind that I'm suthin short. Though I've counted them nine times, and never took xny eyes off 'em while cn board, there's BUthin not right somehow." "Your baggage is all there," persisted the captain "all you brought on board. Time's up; so hurry and bring your wife and children out of the cabin, and go ashore." Wife and children them's 'em! Dod durn it, I knew I had forgot Euthin !" m Bar Room Rules in Denver. In a bar room in Denver, the following "rules" are conspicuously posted : t "No one i3 allowed to remain in the Ball or passage any longer than five. min utes without taking a drink, or in the sit ting room ten minutes without doing like wise. "Any one refusing to drink when asked will be ignominiously kicked out. "No gentleman is expected to eat the lemon peel in his cocktail, and if he does so, he will not bo supplied with anymore, and will not be considered a eentleruan in the future." Renouncing the World. ChaUinz with one of her neighbors the other day, Mrs. Smithers related her experience as follows : "I used to be very gay, and fond of the world and all it3 fashion?, till the Lord showed me my folly. I liked silks, and ribbons, and laces, and feathers, but I found they were dragging me down to hell eo I gave them all to my sister I" PRIVATE SALE!
