Excitement in a Ciacuts. A number of jearsr ago, when Michigan was a new country, in .Livingston county, town of , there lived a fatuilj by the name of Clayton and ooe called Perkins, also as well as a great many others. Pet Clayton was a tall, fine-looking fellow a noblo specimen of our backwoodsmen, " Standing six feet two in his stockings. Pet had taken a shine to Miss Sllie Per kins, aud it wa3 a well known faot that they were engaged ; but the uay when the knot was. to be tied had not vet been divulged. In the month of August, 1844, June's Circus caino through this part for the first time ; and in fact it was the first circus that had ever visited this town, and there were a' great many people that had uevcr ieen one. "When the important day arrived, the town was filled to overflowing with a motley crowd, and of course every .young fellow had "his gal." Among them was Pet with his Sal. Now Pet wanted to get married on the coming Christmas, but Sally wished to have it put off until the next Spring. When the ticket wagon was opened, the tenc was filled in a hurry; Pet aud Sal had been looking through the side shows and they were late getting in, and the performances had already commenced. They walked around the entire ring trying to find a peat ; and, although they could seat two thousand people, every seat was filled. . .. "Never mind," said Sal, "I'd jest as lief stand up." ' Hut gallant Pet could not think of it and said : ' ' '.'Wait a minit, and I'll get you a chair," "and off he started, leaving Sal alone. Just at this moment the clown came in dressed in his usual costume, and dancing around the ring, stopped right in front of Sal and began to 6ing : , "O, Sally is the gal for me." This caused Sal to blush, for she thought that the clown was looking light at her. As she etood near the ring, of course ahe hid the views of those on the lower seats directly behind her ; and as usual on such occasions, the c'own cracks his jokes at the ofienders until they take the hint and find a seat, but she said bho bad rather stand up. At this the clown com menced his jokes, remarking to the ring master : "There is a chance for me, now." "A chance for you V "Yes j don't you see that gal has loft her beau? and the is looking at me, I know." And turning three or four eom ersaults, he stopped directly in, . front of EaJ and eung : 0, Sallj is the gal for me, I would not have any other; And if Sally died to-morrow night, I'd marry Sally's mother." Th;, evidently meant for her, raised Sal'a dander, and she burst out with : ''I'm the gal for you, am I? Marry tnj mother, would yer? You low-lived potted scum of the earth ! If my feller was here he would whollop you for that ! J. wouldn't stay here another minit nor neither would aoy decent people, cither !" Sajing which, she rushed out of the tent raid roars of laughter. The clown, assuming a comical attitude, remarked to tho ringmaster that his grandfath er was a remarkable -man, and ao was his grandmother, too, but that gal beat all his forefathers. f At this juncture Pet rushed in, closely followed by Sal; and jumping into the "ring he squared off at the clown, and said : . "I'll teach you to insult any female under my charge !" and let fly at his opponent, and taking him plump in the face, sent him to mother earth, at which he jumped upon him and commenced kicking him unmercifully. Sal, standing on the outside of. the ring, clapped her hands and cried out : 'That's it, Pet, give him jeaeie, and we'll get married Christmas, sure 1" At this moment, he ringmaster and three or four others caught Pet and com menced to thrash him, when Pet's friends interfered, and a general free fight ensued, which completely broke up the circus. WThat further transpired, deponent eaith tot; only the common by-word was: "Give him jessie, Pet, and we will get married Christmas, sure !' s HOE STORE! SHOE STORE I ! JOHNSON'S RHEUMATIC Cp31- POUND I JTo medicine for the cure of Rheumatism has ever attained to such a high degree of favor and universality as " JOHNSON'S RHEUMATIC COMPOUND. Although but one year before the public, this medicine has justly gained an unbounded popularity; When the originator first intro duced it, he was convinced of its efficacy, but he little supposed it wa3 destined to prove such an inestimable blessing to the afflicted.' But "true merit' cannot be suppressed. The attestation of hundreds who have been cured by its use, must prove the truth of the assertion, THAT IT IS A RADICAL CURATIVE' FOR INFLAMMATORY AND ACUTE RHEUMA TISM, GOUT, NEURALGIA, AND KINDRED DISEASES. We recommend it with confidence as THE GREAT INTERNAL REMEDY, For the Speedy and Positive Cure of the ' above Complaints. Messrs. R. E. Sellers & Co : This is to certify that for the last sixteen years I have been severely afflicted with rheumatism, of ten confined to my house, And even unable to walk. Being in the Postoffice, about two months ago, Mr. Clark observed my crippled condition, and urged me to try a bottle of "Johnson's Rheumatic Compound." I fol lowed his advice and now, by the blessing of God, and the use of half a bottle of your "Compound," I am free from all symptoms of rheumatism, and can walk without the aid of my staff, as well as evr. james Mcdowell, Tarentum, October 25, 18C5.
