Dear AUeghanian : The two education al institutions located in this place, the Seminary and the College, are enlarging their buildings, which,' when completed, will be amongst the most extensive in the State. The addition to the Seminary, un der charge of the Sisters of Mercy, will consist of a new four story building 83 by 31 feet, and an additional atory to the old building, making it also four stories in height. The brick 'work has been con tracted for by Mr. Geo. Diehl, of Holli daysburg. The Colleg e will be enlarged by a wing to the main building 68 feet in length by 40 in width, and three stories in height. The foundation is prepared nnd the brick work will be pushed forward immediately. The average attendance at the College is about 100. The annual Bession will open on the 1st of September. To-day were consigned to the grave the mortal remains of Mary Daly, who died near Chess Springs on Saturday, of con sumption. Deceased entered the convent of the Sisters of Mercy as a novice a few years ago, but the fatal disease had marked her for its own, and she returned to her home to linger out the few remaining days of her earthly existence. Quite a number" of the deniiens of over crowded cities have been spending the heated term in this boro. and vicinity. The Loretto Springs Hou?e, however, has not been verv well filled this season. owing, no doubt, to the great difficulty experienced in finding its exact locality. Our borough authorities, stimulated by a sense of the requirements necessary to the better preservation of peace and good order here, have passed some very.s'rin- gent ordinances cf late, and one of these nas oecome quite a source ot revenue to the town. I allvde to an ordinance reg ulating the rate of epeed of riding or driv ing through the streets. Almost daily, some ambitious young sojourner, actuated by a laudable desire to make 2.40 speed, finds himself "brought up," and his pocket lightened to the tune of 82.00 fine. Squib. TatAt Lis.
