With thirty thousand maimea and bleeding human beings dotting the fields -of carnage in Virginia, and sending forth their piteous appeals for assistance ere they die, we think it a most favorable moment to broach the subject. Our readers, we are sure, have all heard of the Sanitary Commission, and art acquainted frith its heaven-born aims and objects. TIipv know it to bo an association of Christian philanthropists of the North supported by voluntary contributions of money and material, having lor its object the care and comf ort of those of our fcol dier3 who.fa!l in battle or are prostrated by disease. They know that the Com mission b recognized by the General Government as a most valuable auxiliary, aud that its agents, carrying with them plenteous supplies of needful clothing and palatable food and delicacies, are permitted to penetrate wherever our armies go. They know that the hospital and the battle-field are the peculiar scenes of their labors of love that where pain and an guish wring the brow, and the strong man tudJenly becomes as an infant, the Sani tary Commission agents are, to be looked bv the sufferers in the "liffht of t - ministering angels sent direct from heaven. Thev know, in short, that the Commission is indeed a Good Samaritan Commission, binding up the wounds of the afflicted, relieTing the distressed, and pouring the balm of consolation into the car of the djing, when no other human agency is near by to perform the kind offices. Knowing thus much, and knowing more over that the Commission does a work the which the Government, by the very nature r . 1 . 1 " 4A I A 01 me miOg, IS lilipuirui tu taujf uui, we conceive it a work of supererogation to commend it and its objects to the thankful consideration of our readers. The Sanitary Commission, as we have remarked, is supported by voluntary con tributions. Time after time the people of the Xorth have responded to its appeals for money and material responded nobly and willingly. There is no calculating the good these gifts, through the agency of the Commission, have accomplished. Hundreds of poor soldiers will tell you, however, that to the timely asssistance thus freely rendered thy owe their very txistecce that without it they would now mouldering beneath the sod. The Comaigsion ia again in need of contribu tions I There never is a -time when it docs not require assistance, but just now it Etands peculiar in need of it. Although not disposed to favor or recom mend Patent Medieines in general, through distrust of their ingredients and effects ; I yet know of no sufficient reasons why a man may not testify to the benefits he believes himself to have received from any simple preparation, in the hope that he may thus contribute to the benefit of others. I do this the more readily in- regard to Hoofland's German Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M. Jackson, of this city, because I was prejudiced against them "for many years, under the impression that they were chiefly an aclobolic mixture. I am Jn.lphT. friend Robert Shoemaker., for the removal of tnis prejudice Dy proper tests, and for en couragement to try them, when suffering from great and long continued debilitv. The use of three bottles of these Bitter?, at the beginning of the present year, was followed by evident relief, and restoration to a degree of bodily and mental vigor which - I had not felt for six months before, and had almost despaired of regaining. I therefore thank God and my friend for directing me to ue them. J. NEWTON BROWN Philad'a., Jcsk 23, 18GJ, ' ATTENTION SOLDIERS ! When we reached Martinsburg, I feared that I 6hould have to come home; but noticing some of your Bitters in the store of Mr. U. A number of my comrades who suffered in the same manner and from the same cause, with whom I shared th Bitters, join me in this certificate. I expect to return to the seat of war with the Legion, and I shall certainly take a supply of the Bitters in my knapsack.
