Ba-r, in Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1833, has been subjected to a very severe test, which it withstood in a most satisfactory manner. This Safe, containing all my books together withva'u'ble papers belonging to mysolf and some to my neighbors and friends, and repreaetine a val ie of over Twenty Thous and Dollars, (?20,C0O) was in my Mill which was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju ly, 1800, and passed through the fiery ordeal unscathed. The Safe was ou the second floor and foil to the basement of the Mill, and was subjected for six hours to an intense heat among the ruius, which was greatly increased by the combustion of a large quantity of grain confined within the brick walls After the tire the safe was opened and the book3 and papers taken out in a state of perfect preser vation, the paper not even being discolored.
