EgU In a small church at a little vil lagc near Brighton, where the congrega tion could not alford to pay an organist, they recently bought a FeU-acting organ, a compact instrument well suited to the purpose, and constructed to pay forty dif ferent tunes. Theexton had instructions Low to set it going, and how to stop it ; tut unfortunately, he forgot the latter part of hi3 business, and. alter singing the first four verses of a hymn before the sermon, the organ could not be stopped, and it continued playing two verses more ; then just as the clergyman completed the words 'let us pray," the organ clicked and started a fresh tune. The minister sat it oujpatiently, and then renewed his introductory word?, "let us pray" when click went the organ again, and started on another tune. The sexton and others continued their cxertious to find out the fcpring, but no man could put a stop, to itj so they got four of the stoutest men in the church to shoulder the perverse in strument, and they carried it down the centre aisle of the church, plaing away, into the Church-yard, where it continued tdiclcing and playing away until the whole forty tunes were finished. SS" The general orders respecting gu erillas are very pointed. We quote a few of them : Secretary Stanton says "Let them swing." Gen. Dix advises to "shoot them on the spot." , - . Gen. SchoSeld says :"Execute them immediately." Gen. Blunt says "Give them no quar ter.'. . . Gen. Loan says "Shoot them when found." Gen. Hallcck's orders are "Let them be tried immediately by a drumhead court, and punished with death." 2?" Puffs most in vogue at present powder-puffs. ' Srate of the weather, at present no small change. : Why would General M'Olellan make a K"o. 1 boxer? Because he has just shown that he is a splendid nianoeuverer with Lis "left." In view of the facility with which the famous llebel, Stonewall Jackson, moves Limelf from field to field, it is suggested that hia sobriquet be changed from "Stone wall" to "rortable-Fence" Jaekton. BaowsLow among the secessionists of Tennessee The manuscript is nearly completed, and will bo put to press forthwith.. The appearance and typography of the work will be of the first class ; and it will be fully and handsomely illustrated with sketches of the scenes referred to and afinely engraved steel portrait of the author. As to its contents, we have no hesitation in. saying that the public will be startled at this narrative of facts. It will lay bare the persecutions and cruelty which marked the !eve!opment of the secession eonspiraej- in Tennessee, the disasters and the ruin with which it devasted communities once prosper ous and sundered families onco happy ; more than all, it will expose the b.td and reckless ainb'tior., and the relentless bioodthirstiness, by which tho rh:gjealers of the conspiracy were stiiaul-ited to their work of crime and treason. ' The narrative is one of personal experiences. The author vouches for the accuracy of its statements. The public may therefore accept has not only a reliable but a peculiar "chap ter in the general history of the times ; and we art confident that no more Significant startling, or instructive memorial of the re bellion, in its minute personal and social bear-, ings, is now accessible. - The public are well aware that Mr. Bnowx tow is a bold speaking mar.. In this narra tive of his sufferings, composed mostly while confined in the jail at Knoxville, he has ut tered hi3 thoughts in language of extraordi nary force and fearlessness, scathing his ad versaries even while in their power, an', appealing to his countrymen even from hie cell with the nrger.ey of a martyr. A CARD. Witmer's Bpidge, Lancaster Tp. July 30, 1860. Messrs. Evaxs axd Watsox : Gentlemen- The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which I purchased from your agent, Mr. Adam R. Ba-r, in Lancaster" CHy, on July 20th, 183S, has been subjected to a very severe test, which it withstood in a most satisfactory manner. Tim Safe, containing all my books together with valuable papers belonging to myself and somef my neighbors and friends, arid represeting a value of over Twenty Thous and Dollars, ($20,000) was in my Mill which was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju ly, 1860, and passed through the fiery ordeal unscathed. The Safe was on the second floor and fell to the basement of the Mill, and was subjected for six hours to an intense heat among the rui.is, which was greatly increased by the combustion of a large quantity of grain confined within the brick walls. After the fire the safe was opened and the books and papers taken out in a state of perfect preser vation, the paper not even being discolored. This fact was, however, to many bystanders a better recommendation of your Safes tfen could be expressed in any other words from me. Yours Ilespcctfullv, sel3 SAMUEL RANCK.
