The following interesting letter has been 'handed us by a friend for publication. The writer was formerly a resident of this county, but has lived in Virginia for a series of years past. He is well known in this section, and what he iiiys may be relied on as being cor rect. Camp Mlakow Burr, June 4, 1802. I have just made my escape from llebeldom, and iu bo doing was so fortunate aa to give the go-by to the rop intended lor my neck. I left my home at nii:ht, and took to the mountains, ac cumpanicd by two Pennsylvanians one a Native cf your county, James Kearns by nariie, residing in Jchnstowu. I was obliged, however, to leave my family be hind, but hope the Federal army may soon, reach their locality, that I may get them away. 1 was in Richmond on the 24th of May lat, and had a full opportunity of seeing and learning the number, position and condition of the Rebel army near that place under Joe Johnston. They number about seventy thousand effective troops, all of whom are in great straits fur want t food and clothing, especially thoes. Great numbers of deserters were leaving every day, and a guard of five hundred uieu were stationed in the city to pick up ttriigglers. While I was there, one hundred and hixtv bushels of com were issued as ra tions to Longstrcet's Brigade, to be pan-hid. Bacon was sslliug at 30 cents per pound ; browu sugar at 'Jo cents ; salt at T0 dollars per sack ! Gold commanded one hundred and thirty per cent, premi u:i. Fiiiiiilitri were leaving the city daily, and more than one-half the eutire popula tion would hail the advent of the Federal iorces as their sure deliverance from an archy, -despotism and starvation. WLcki Richmond falls, the stronghold of tho Rebels is gone. All their armory slid arsenal arrangements are there, with the es-ce-ption of a small affair in Xorth Cuiollnu. Prior to my departure from the ctiy, the State arc-hives had bean pscked tip and directed to Danville, Va. The CeufoJerate would-be archives were jUo packed up and directed to Columbia, Mouth Carolina, showing conclusively that irecesh expected Rrchuiond to ultimately I f.'.ll before M'Clcllan and his brave army. 1 took a sketch ot the batteries, ob structions in the river, etc., for future reference. Hoping that the armies of the Union I may .speedily crush out this accursed re k Lol'.ion, conceived in sin, brought forth in imquit', and fostered by the most cor- rjpt aud hellish means ever heard of since the celebrated rebellion iu which the 1 Devil played bo conspicuous part, aud i that our glorious old Flag may long wave j a protection to American citizeus wheth jcr at home or abroad I remain Yours, etc., 2JAC.
