Union celebration, to be participated in by
citizens of Blair, Cambria and Hunting
don counties, irrespective of politics or re
ligion, on the Fourth. The following
geutlemen were named on the Committee
of Arrangements from this county : E.
IIuho.5, A. C: Mullin, Ebensburg; Wm.
K. Hughes, Wilmore ; E. Nutter, Gallitzin.
News Depot. Master llobert Thomp
son has opened out a news depot at the
Post Office, where he is in daily receipt
of the very latest Pittsburg, Philadelphia
and 2sew York newspapers. He keeps
also on hand a large and splendid assort
ment of national envelopes, note paper,
red-white-and-blue collars for ladies and
gentlemen, etc., etc. An appreciative
public should give the "Doctor" the en
couragement he deserves in his enterprise.
Married On Thursday, 13th inst.,
by the Rev. LI. 11. Powell," Mr. John O.
Evans to Miss Lydia Davis, both of
thi3 place.
Accompanying the above notice came
a large and delicious cake, for which we
return our thanks, coupled with the hope
that the happy couple ir.ay enjoy to the
fullest extent their measure of connubial
bliss.
Epistolary Advice. If you have a
son, or a brother, or a cousin, or a friend
in the army, write to him often as possi
ble. Nothing is more highly prized by
the soldier than a letter from the dear
ones at home. Likewise, send him plenty
of late papers. Ey these means you will
greatly enliven the dull tedium of lying
in camp, besides convincing him that al
though absent he is not forgotten.
Indiana County. The Indiana Na
tional Guards, Capt. Porter, of Indiana
borough, left for Camp Wright on the
10th in.t. The Washington Blues,
Capt. Nesbit, of Blairsville, took up their
line of march on the same day for the
same rendezvous.- R. C. Taylor has
been appointed Post Master of Indiana,
in the place of J. E. Coulter.
Now is the Time ! At this particular
iuncture, when the thermometer ranjres in
the nineties in the shade, ' the duty de
volves on all good citizens to "keep cool."
Now, how can this be better done than by
costuming yourself in one of C. R. Jones'
lijiht, aerial suits of summer clothing ?
Mind the location High street, two doors
west of the Arcade.
IIavelocks. Miss Dix writes that if
the ladies desiro to do the soldiers a real
service they should make Uavelocks.
She says, "I never can have too many.
Should any one ask what they shall do for
tho soldiers at a cheap rate, say, make
IIavelocks." The ladies should respond
to this request.

The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which
I purchased from your agent, Mr. Adam R.
Ba-r, iu Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1858,
has been subjected to a very severe test,
which it withstood in a most 6atisfactorj
manner. This Sif'e, containing all my books
together with va'u iblc papers belonging to
myself and some to my neighbors and frftnd,
and represetiug a va.1 ic of over Twenty Thous
and Dollars, ($20,000) was in my Mill which
was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju
ly, I860, and passed through the fiery ordeal
unscathed. The Safe was on the second tioor
and fell to the basvinent of the Mill, and was
subjected for six hour? to an intense heat
among the ruins, which was greatly increased
by the combustion of a large quantity of grain
confined within he brick walls. After th
fire the safe was opened and the books and
papers taken out in a state of perfect preser
vation, the paper not even being discolored.
This fact was, however, to many bystander '
a better recommendation of your Safes thaa
could be expressed in any other words from
me. Yours Respectfully,
cl3 SAMUEL RANCK.
