Ba-r, iu Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1858, has been subjected to a very severe test, which it withstood in a most 6atisfactorj manner. This Sif'e, containing all my books together with va'u iblc papers belonging to myself and some to my neighbors and frftnd, and represetiug a va.1 ic of over Twenty Thous and Dollars, ($20,000) was in my Mill which was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju ly, I860, and passed through the fiery ordeal unscathed. The Safe was on the second tioor and fell to the basvinent of the Mill, and was subjected for six hour? to an intense heat among the ruins, which was greatly increased by the combustion of a large quantity of grain confined within he brick walls. After th fire the safe was opened and the books and papers taken out in a state of perfect preser vation, the paper not even being discolored. This fact was, however, to many bystander ' a better recommendation of your Safes thaa could be expressed in any other words from me. Yours Respectfully, cl3 SAMUEL RANCK.
