The poor little fellows that have the misfortuuo to come aloug first, Lave to educate parents to their task, and iu the process they ot spanked aad sha ken and abiuei. After a mau has three or four children, he learns that whipping or striking a child less than two years of age is barbarism. We kuew one ''paternal head" who struck his first child when on ly six weeks old. he actually believing the child knew better than to cry, and that he eioppcd crying at that particular time be cause he struck him. We carry certain notions of children nnd of family govern ment into married life, and the first child is always the victim of these notions. An 1 not of these alone, lor the parents have not learned self-control, and a baby i.s whipped quite ai often because the parent is impitient or ansrry, as becanse it is vicious or intractable. We inflict on our first children the floggings we ought, to have for our own impatience or fretfulness. This pounding children before they be come in God's eye morally responsible, is a very strange business. Patience, good people, unwearying pntience! Don't wait to learn it until one of your little ones shall be hidden under the daisies. Kino Alchuiiol Usurps the Hulk of Kixa Cotton. A gentemau recently from Charleston expressed the opinion that tohUlcy had a great deal to do with the Secession movement in Carleston. The entire population, he said, seemed to be in a perpetual debauch. Uar-rooms, restaurants, stores, shops, all public places were crowded incessantly with a drunken blaspheming mob. This is the material which constitutes the principal strength of the Secession movement. Cars for Liverpool. Sanc tioned by the highest medical authorities, both in Europe and the Uuitcd States, f.nd prescribed in their practice. The cxperier.ee of thousands daily proves that no prc-pi'.n4ion of lion can be compared with it. Impurities of the blood, depression of vit;.l ene rgy, pale and otherwise sickly complexions, indicate its necessity in almost every conceivable case. Innoxious in nil maladies in which it has been tried, it has proved absolutely curative iueaeh of the following complaints, viz : In Debility, Xervous Affections, Emaciation Dyspepsia, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Dysentery, jitciptint Consumption, Scrofulous Tubtrculosis, Halt lll.rum, Mismcuslruation, Whites, Chloro sis, Licer Complaints, Chronic Headaches, Rhcu mutism, Jntertui'.Unt Ftivrs, Pi:rplcs on tin. Face. etc. Incases of Gpnep.al Debility, whether the result of acute diseases, or of the continued diminution cf nervous and muscular energy from chronic complaints, on trial cf this re storative has proved successful to an extent which no description nor written" attestation would render credible. Invalids so long bed ridden as to have become forgotten in their own neighborhoods, have suddenly reappeared in the busv world as if just returned from pro tracted travel in a distant lanu. come u-rj signal instances of this kind areattestcd of fe run lis sufferers, emaciated victims of appa rent marasmus, sanguineous exhaustion, crit ical changes, and that complication cf nervous and dyspeptic aversion to :.ir and exercise for which the physician has no n:nne. In Xervcus" Affectiohs of all kind?, nnd for reasons familiarto lrcdicul men, the operation of this preparation of iron must necessarily be salutary, for, unlike the old oxides, it is vigo rously tonic, without being exciting i'nd over heating: and gently, rcg vhudy r, crki:!, even in the most obstinate cases of ct-aiivcness, without ever being a gastric purgative, or in flicting a difKgrcablc sensation. It is this latter property, among others, which makes it so remarkably clfcctual and perma nent a remedy for Piles, upon which it also appears to exert a distinct and specific action, by dispersing the local tendency which forms them. In Dyspepsia, innumerable as are its causes, a single box of these Chalybeate Pills has ol ten sufficed for the mot habitual cases, inclu ding the attendant costiveness. In unchecked Dhrrheco, even when advanced to Dysr.-itcry. confirmed, emaciating, I'i'd appa rently malignant, uie effects have lie-en equally decisive and astonishing. In the local pair.s, loss of flesh and strength, debilitating cough :::.d remittent hectic which gcncrallv indicate Jncpifnt Cousrii.-j'tion, this remedy lifts allayed the alarm of friends and physicians, in several very gratifying and in teresting instances. In Scrtulous Tiilercvlusis this medicated Iron Las had far more' than the good c fleet cf the moit cautiously bal.i :eed preparations of iodine, without any of their v.f 11 known lia bilities. The attention of females cannot be too con fidently invited to this remedy and restorative, in the cases peculiarly affecting them. In Rheumatism, both chronic and inflamato ry in the latte r, howeve r, lr ore decidedly it has been invariably well repotted, be.ih as alleviating pain and reducing the swellings and stiffness of the joints and muscles. In pat enn'tt Hut Ferns it must necessarily be a great remedy and eitviLctic restorative, and its progress in the new settlements of the West, will probably be oue of hih renown and use fulness. No remedy has ever been discovered in the whole history of medicine which exerts such prompt, happy and fully restorative ef fects. Good appetite, complete digestion, rap id acquisition of strength, with au unusual disposition for active and cheerful exercise immediately follow its use.
