truth predominates over the poetry. Yet

I would be thine!
Ah, not to learn the anguish
Of stitching shirts, and mending trowsers old,
Not not beneath vast household cares to lan
guish,
To make mint-juleps for your every cold,
l would be thine
Forever thine, on earth, my ,deary;"
Not to spin yarn, or twist the needed twine,
No, no 1 O, that were dreadful dreary.
I would be thine 1
Forever thine ; but not to cook the dinner,
No ! that would spoil these dainty hands of
mine.
For that you'll be obliged to get some verdant
sinner.
Forever with you
At your heels for aye,
At morn, at noon, and at the glorious even,
Watching you, lest your footsteps go astray,
And lest you lose the narrow way to heuven.
I would be thine 1
When snow-showers shroud this earth of
quiet beauty.
Marry me glorious husband mine,
I'll watchman-like be ever on my duty,

state,
Reading sweet Shelley's poems to my deary,
Having thee, husband kind, to stir the grate,
And hold my head when I get tired and weary.
I would be thine I
Not thine, to bake the bread we need for
"eaten,"
Neither, to scour the pewter till it brightly
shine,
But only thine life's bitter cup to sweeten;
Thine I would be to firmly clasp thy ha id,
And lead thee gently ocr life s rugged way,
Guiding ('tis woman's mission) to the better
land,
Where lauded once, I'd humbly whisper "stay.
I would be thine 1
To live in ease sharing thy golden treasure,
To have thee gratify each roving wish of mine,
And let me (mark this) have my every pleas

Leo Broken. An individual named
Jinks, in violation of all rules and regula
tions in such cases made and provided, on
last Thursday, furnished his brother,
1 nomas Jinks, who is a prisoner in our
county jail, a quantity of tanglefoot with
which (no doubt) to celebrate the ga-lori-
ous victorv of Ileenan over Savers. This
Thomas forthwith proceeded to do, by get

whiskey in question being of the denomi
nation known as ''fisrhtinsr," caused him to
become riproarious, and during his drunk
en antics, by some means or other he frac
tured the leg of a prisoner confined in the
same room. The broken limb of the un
fortunate victim was immediately attended
to, and he is now doing as well as could
be expected: aud the Mr. Jinks first-
mentioned vras arrested and fined for fur
nishing prisoners with liquor.
New Goods. Owing to want of space
last week, we were unable to notice edito
rially the arrival of a large and magnificent
assortment of goods at the well aud favor
ably known establishment of "Win. Davis,
Esq. We would here state that Mr. D.
and his accommodating salesmen nave
made arrangements to fill all orders, from
a paper of pins or a pound of coffee to ar
ticles enough to set up a one-horse store,
at prices which will astonish the natives,
and everybody else. Give him a call and
see.
A Compromise. It is said that if oth
er arrangements cannot be entered into
o
with regard to the final adjustment of the
Champion's Belt, about which such
excitement is being kept up, both in Eng
land and America, that it is the intention
of Sayers providing Ileenan is agreeable,
and of course he will be to compromise
the matter by furnishing Benicia with an
elaborate suit of ready-made clothing, &c.,
from the cheap establishment of C. R.
Jones, one door below Thompson's Moun
tain House.
Important Change. The Iron City
College has removed to the splendid halls
in the new College Building, corner of
Penn and St. Clair streets, opposite the St
Clair Hotel. Prof. J. C. Smith, A. 31. for
the past three years the principal teacher
in the College, is now associate Principal
and proprietor with F. W. Jenkins in the
Institution, and 31 r. A. Cowley is engaged
as the permanent teacher of penmanship.
The College now occupies the largest and
best rooms in the city. Pittsburg Even
