Be not forward, but friendly and cour teous the first to salute ; hear an answer and be not pensive when it is time to converse. One handsome signet-ring on the little finger of the left hand, a scarf-pin which is neither large nor showy, nor too intricate in its design, and a light, rather thin watch-guard with a cross-bar, arc all that he ought to wear. But if he aspires to more than this, he should observe the fol lowing rules : 1. Let everything be real and good. False jewelry is not only a practical lie, but an absolute vulgarity, since its use arises from an attempt to appear richer or graud er than its wearer is. 2. Let it be simple. Elaborate studs, waist-coat buttons, and wrist-links, are all abominable. The last particularly, should be as plain as possible, consisting of plain gold ovals, with at most the crest engraved upon them. Diamonds and brilliants arc quite unsuitable to men, whose jewelry should never be conspicuous. If you hap pen to possess a single diamond of great value, you may wear it on great occasions as a ling, but no more thanone ring sho'd ever be worn by a gentleman.. o. Let it be distinguished rather by its curiosity than its brilliancy. An antique or bit of old jewelry possesses more iuterst, particularly if you are able to tell its his tory, than the most splendid production of the goldsmith's shop. 4. Let it harmonize with the colors of your dress. .r. Let it have some use, Men should never, like women, wear jewels for mere ornament, whatever may be the fashion of Hungarian noblemen, and deposed Indian rajahs, with jackets covered with rubies. liETTiNii Mauri ei). "Well," she remarked, "'taint such a eighty thing, after all." Conversation. If you resolve to please, never speak to gratify any particu lar vanity or passion of your own, but al ways with a design either to divert or in form the company A man who only aims at one of these, is always easy in his dis course. He is never out of humor at being interrupted, because he considers that those who hear him are the best judges whether what he va saying could cither divert or PROFESSIONAL CARDS ABRAHAM KOl'ELIN, Attorney at Law, Johnstown, Pa.
