" We all do fade as a leaf." About
year since, the llev. D, Harbison lynch
ed in the Presbyterian church in thus
aee, a sermon from the text, "We all
do fade as a leaf." Now that the season
appropriate, a number of his conrretra-
tion havo signified their appreciation of
us discourse by requestinjr its rei.etition.
The lievcrend. gentleman has tousented
to gvatiiy this desire on the part of his
friends, and has appointed next Sabbath,
at lUj o clock m the morning, for that
purpose.
It is a solemn fact that, woncr or later.
we must all die. P.ut amid the varied
scenes and avocations of this world, we
arc tao prone betimes to forget this im
portant truth. It is well, therefore, that
we be occasionally remiuded of it: and
well may it be done by comparing our
mortality with the faded leaf. How truly
has it been eaid of man, that "to-day, he
pats iorth the tender leaves of hope; to
morrow, blo-so-.ns, and bears his blushing
honors t;uek upon him; the next day
comcs a frost, which nips the fdioot; and
when he thinks his greatness is still as
piring, he falls, liko autumn leaves, to en
rich our mother earth.
We trust, in view of the all-important
subject of which it treats, that all who
can conveniently do s., will bo present at
the delivery of this discourse. Abuudant
in profound thought a.id beautiful image
ry, it will be a rare intellectual feast, and
may we not hope? bo cf lasting bene
fit to all who hear it.

of this aiisociation. We are very glad to
learn that the Society ia still prusp-ering.
It must result in much pood to all who
take part in the discussions and exercises
which are there carried on. Although a
member of the Lyceum, we have I een so
much occupied with other important
matters for pome time past, tAat we
have been compelled to forego the pleasure
of being present at a number of its
meetings. We will act upon the sugges

endeavor to lc on hand the next night,

An evening of each week may be spent
there very pleasantly and profitably. We
will take pleasure in publishing the ques

the Society so desire.

great pleasure in noting the progress of
this Club, and are glad to tee a spirit of
rivalry among its members worthy of true

and accepted. To all those who have nev
er witnessed this interesting game, we
would say, try to be present on the occa
sion. The match will take place on Sat

Capt. Murray's meadow.

Godev's Lady's Book. We have re
ceived the October number of this most
excellent periodical. It contains a large
amount of interesting reading matter,
numerous useful receipts, directions for
executing fancy needlework, &C., besides,
several superb engravings. "Waiting for
the Verdict" is a magnificent plate, and is
well worth a year's subscription to the
"book." Godey has been in the field for
many years; has always performed what
he promi-:ed; and has perhaps done as
much to elevate the tastes and improve
the condition of the fair sex, as any man
living. Long may he and hi3 Lady's
Book live!
Accident. We regret that a little
girl, the daughter of our neighbor, Mr.
Thomas J. Williams, haddier leg broken
on Monday last. Whilst playing with
some other children in the grounds of the
Union School, she wa.- either thrown down
by some larger ones, or accidently slipped
and fell, (we don't know which,) when
the fracture occurred. As soon as it was
discovered, purgieal aid was called, and
wc are informed the little patient in now
doing as well as could be expected.

also another paper from the now well

laughable account of a Jolly Tar's troub

Diir Timls. Bitters requests us to
state that he is not prepared this week to
give his readers thoir I'itters. In lieu of
this almost unpardonable emission on his
part, he promises most faithfully to give
them (and the rest of mankind) at a day not
far distant, a much larger slug than they
have hitherto been in the habit of imbi

compensate them no doubt for their loss
this week. We would merely remark, in
