We this week lay before our readers a
my lengthy communication from‘this gen
tleman. to the exclusion of our usual vari- 1
ety. It is vigorously written—levels. as it
were with a single stroke, every imputax
tion which base ‘calumniation has castupon
its distinguished author, and reflects cred
it upon his patriotism and legal ntteinmentc.
It contains a detailed statement of the facts
and circumstances connected with his nom
ination by the‘ President and rejection by
the U. 8. Senate. and must ultimately place
him still highet in the affections of every
unbiased and free-thinking mind. We
ask for.it an attentive and careful perusal,
feeling assured that it will well repay the
trouble. '3
