CLEARFIELD, PA., NOV. 20, 1867.
. . I'VE BEEN THINKING.
I've been thinking, I've been thinking,
' What a glorious world were this,
Did folks mind their business mors,
" -'And mind their neighbor's less.
For instance, you and! my friend,
. Are Badly prone to talk
Of matters that concerns us not,
And others' follies mock..
I've been thinking, I've been thinking,
- To mind; our own affairs
That positively our neighbors might
Contrive to manage theirs.
We've fault enough at home to mend
, It may be so with others ;
It would seem strange if it were not,
Since all mankind were brothers.
Oh ! would that we had charity,
For every man and woman,
Forgiveness is the mark of those
To know "to err is human."
Then let us banish jealousy
Let's Kft our fallen brother,
' And as we journey down life's road,
" "Do good to one another."
A Famine in Sweden. An appeal is
made to the London Times on behalf of the
starvingt'.population of Norland, a wide
stretch of country in the northeast of Swe
den. A communication says : Here, at the
best of times, a thrifty and industrious peo
ple gain a scanty subsistence from an un
willing soil, and it is a rarely fine summer
.that enables them to lay by anything a
gamst their dreary Arctic weather. For
seven years past the crops in that country
nave been extremely poor. Last winter
was one of the longest and severest ever
known even in the north of Europe, and be
fore the fitful summer sun and rain bad
time to ripen them an early frost blighted
and entirely ruined the corn crops on which
the inhabitants were depending for subsis
tence during the coming winter. The pop
ulation is estimated at 70000 to 100,000,
and already the most pitiable reports come
of their condition how bread is not to be
had for money, and people are living on
roots and the bark of trees. The wealthier
classes in Sweden have already done much
to help their unfortunate neighbors, but
Sweden is not a wealthy country and much
more is required than she can do.

A GREAT DISCOVERY One of the
greatest and most useful discoveries in
medical science was made by the celebrated Dr.
J Dumas, of Paris. Chief Physician to the Impe
rial Infirmary of France, in 1861. Those who
have been afflicted with the painful disease known
as the Piles, and effectually cured by the use of
Dr. Dumas' French Pile Sal vb. cannot speak too
highly of the benefits conferred upon tbem by
the use of this certain remedy. It has never
been known to fail in effecting a permanent cure
in a single case. In this respect it surpasses all
other medicines of the kind. It will do just
what it is recommended for ; if not. the money
will be refunded. One or two boxes is suf&eient
to effect a permanent cure in four or six days, if
the directions on the box are followed. Price one
and two dollars per box, according to size. Sent
