THE MFf tilMra W titflBT.TWO EXTRAOBDINABY. The fort of Calcutta, (write- aa English of ficer in once a-week.) is eiten lots --- nutted festivity, from vnJ'"" jugglers, renowned for their aim aod -ty. Tbe pertormancea of these strange people hare been ao often described, that I shall only mention a few, for otherwise I might tire the reader. One of them struck me aa being curi ous, from its baring a strong resemblance to the feata recorded in aacred history, as having been performed by the magicians of Egypt, in the time of Moses, and in presence of Phara oh. Indeed, it ia well known that the Hindoo trick baa been banded down from the most distant ages, from father to son, there is little wonder that anch similarity can exist. The particular trick alluded to is the apparent con version of a brass coin into a snake. The jug gler gave me the coin to hold, and then seated himself about rive yards from me, on a small rug, from which he never attempted to move during the whole performance. I showed the coin to aeveral persons who were close beside me, on a forum in front of the juggler. At a sign from him, I not only grasped the coin I held firmly in my right hand, but crossing that hand with equal tightness with my lefV I inclosed them both as firmly aa I could be tween my knees, of course I was positively certain that the small coin was within my doub le fists. Tbe juggler then began a short in cantation, accompanied by a monotonous and discordant sort of a recitative, and repeating tbe words, "Ram Sammu," during some min utes, lie then suddenly stopped, and still keeping bis seat, made a quick motion with bis hand, as if throwing something at me, giving, at the same time a puff" with his mouth. At that instant I felt my hand suddenly dis tend, and become partly open, while I experi enced a sensation as if a cold ball of dough, or Amofhinir aaiiallv as soft, nasty and disagree able, was now between my palms. I started to my feet to the astonishment of others, and opening my bands, found there no coin ; but to my horror and alarm, (for of all created things I detest and loathe tbe genus,) I saw a young snake, all alive oh ! and of all tbe snakes in the world, a cobra di-cappello, fold ed, or rather coiled, roundly up, I threw it in stantly to the ground, trembling with rage and fesr as if already bit by the deadly reptile, which bagan immediately to crawl aloDg the ground, to the alarm and amazement of every one present. The juggler now got up for tbe first time since be sat down, and catching bold of the snake, displayed its length, two feet all but one inch and a half, lie then took it cautiously by the tail, and opening his own mouth to its widest extent, lettbe headjof the snake drop into it, deliberately commenced to swallow the animal, till the end of the tail only vras visible ; then made a sudden gulp, the whole of the snake was apparently swallowed. After this he came up to the spectators, ope ning his mouth wide permitting us to look in to bis teeth, but no snake or snake's tail was "visible it was seemingly down his throat al together. During the remainder of the per formances we never saw tbe snake again, nor did the man profess his ability to make it re appear. But be performed another snake trick which surorised us very much. He took from a baz another cobra di-capello, and, walking into the centre of tbe room, inclosed it in his hands in a folded state. He waved or shook them for some time in this condition, and then opened bis fists, when, bey ! presto the snake was gone, and in its place appeared several small ones, which he suffered to fall from his bands, when they glided, with their necnliar nndnlatinz movement, almost like the waves of tbe sea, across tbe floor. The proprietors and Manufacturers of tlostetter s (Jelebrated tstomaci Bitters can appeal with perfect confidence to phy sicians and citizens generally of the United States, because tbe article has attained a reputation here tofore unknown. A few facts upon this point will speak more powerfully than volumes of bare asser tion or blazoning puffery. The consumption of Hostetter s fctomach Hitters lor the last year a mountcd to over a half-million bottles, and from its manifest steady increase in times past, it is ev ident that during the coming year the consump tion will reach near one million bottles. Ibis tin mense amount could never have been sold but fjr the rare medicinal propertiescontained in the pre paration, and the sanction of the most prominent physicians in tnose sections oi me country wnere tbe article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but are ready at all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in all ca ses of stomachic derangements and the diseases re sulting therefrom. This is not a temporary popu larity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in the way of trumpeting the qualities of the Bitters, but a solid estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is destined to be as enduring as time itself Hostctter's Stomach Bitters have proved a God send to regions where fever and ague and various other bilious complaints have counted their vic tims by hundreds. To be able to state confident ly that the 'Bitters' are a certain cure for the Dys pepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all mor bid matter from the stomach, purifies the blood, and imparts renewed vitality to the nervous sys tem, giving it that tone and energy indispensable for the restoration of health. It operates upon the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to the healthy discharge of the functions of nature. Elderly persons may use the Bitters daily as per directions on the bottle, and they will find it a stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort declining years, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigorating to the bowels, excellent as a tonic, and rejuvena ting generally. We have evidence of thousands of aged men and women who have experienced the benefit of using this preparation while suffer ing from stomach derangements and general de bility; acting under the advice of physicians, they have abandoned all deleterious drugs and fairly tested the merits of this article. A few words to the gentler sex. There are certain pe riods when their cares are soharrassing that many of them sink under the trial. The relation of mo ther and child is so absorbingly tender, that the mother, especially if she be young, is apt to for get her own health in the extreme anxiety for her infant. Should the period for maternity arrive during the summer season, the wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. Here, then, is a necessity for a stimulant to recuperate the ener gies of the system, and enable the mother to bear up under her exhausting trials and responsibili ties. Nursing mothers generally prefer the Bit ters to all other invigorators that receive the en dorsement of physicians, because it is agreeable to the taste as well as certain to give a permanent increase of bodily strength. All those persons, to whom we have particular ly referred above, to wit : sufferers from fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea, dysentery, in digestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or de rangements of the stomach, superanuated inval ids, persons of sedentary occupation, and nursing mothers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving to Uostetter's Celebrated Stomach Bit ters a trial. Cavtton. We caution the public against using any of the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for Hostetter'' s Celebrated Stomach Bitters, and see that each bottle has the words "Dr. J. Uostetter's Stomach Bitters'' blown on the side of the bottle, and stamped on the metallic cap covering the cork, and observe thatour autograph signature is on the label.
