Ssow. The weather clerk, it would seem,
lias made a sad jumble of things this season.
In March he gave ns mild and pleasant weath
er sun-shine and calm. Now, in the middle
of April, he has taken it into his contrary
noddle" to send tis cold and chilly winds,
and even snow, a sufficient quantity of which
ell yesterday morning to cover the ground,
nd mako this region present quite a winter
Jiko appearance.
Fire. About a week or ten days ago, a
JiOtise on land of David Cathcart, in Knox
township, this county, was destroyed by fire.
It had been occupied by Mr. Wallace Dunlap,
who was about removing to Brady, and was
absent at the time. His wife and one or two
vtber females were present, and managed to
xemove the contents, but were unable to save
the building, the fire having broken out at the
roof. We do not know what the loss will a
mount to.
Accident. We are informed, that on Tues
day of last week, 12th inst.,C. Z.M'CulIough
of Lawrence township, received a severe cnt
from an axe in the hands of another person,
whilst engaged in rafting. The person was
driving a pin and the axe accidentally glanced,
nd struck Mr. M'Cuilough on the side of the
left foot, cutting a gash several inches in
length, and severing od artery. The wound
hied profusely for several hours and was very
painful, but is now healing fast.
I.v Jail. On last Friday afternoon, 15th
. Inst., A. J. Ilays, and Owen M'Govern, were
lodged in jail for robbing tho store of John P.
Jlider, in Covington township, on the night of
the 11th. Suspicion having attached to Ilays,
a warrant was issued, on which he was arrest
ed and brought before P. A. Gaulin, Esq. On
examination he confessed the thoft, delivered
up a portion of the goods, and implicated
M'Govern as an accomplice and the leader
1n tho robbery. M'Govern, however, denies
having any knowledge of the affair.- Hays
was tried last fall for robbing M'Gehan's store,
tut was cleared. How he will fare this time
remains to be seen.
Robbery. In the latter part of the past
week, tho store of Hon. Wm. L. Moore, in
Clearfield Borough, was robbed of $110,00
$116,00 in gold and $30,31 in silver. The
money was taken out of tho sale, which con
tained some $800,00 more, of paper money.
This, however, was not disturbed, although tho
gold wag lying on top of one of the packages
of bank bills. The money was first missed on
Ratnrday evening, but owing to the fact that
the key had been left in the lock of the safe,
and tome other circumstances, it is supposed
It had been taken some time during Friday.
There are no suspicions as to who might have
committed the robbery.
