For Pike's Peak. One day last week, Jo seph Peters, Esq., and Mr. Edward Montelins, i Curwensville, this county, started for the Pike's Peak gold mines. We wish them the best of luck, and hope they may soon return with each "a pocket full of rocks." The weather clerk, it would seem, lias made a sad jumble of things this season. In March he gave ns mild and pleasant weath er sun-shine and calm. Now, in the middle of April, he has taken it into his contrary noddle" to send tis cold and chilly winds, and even snow, a sufficient quantity of which ell yesterday morning to cover the ground, nd mako this region present quite a winter Jiko appearance. Fire. About a week or ten days ago, a JiOtise on land of David Cathcart, in Knox township, this county, was destroyed by fire. It had been occupied by Mr. Wallace Dunlap, who was about removing to Brady, and was absent at the time. His wife and one or two vtber females were present, and managed to xemove the contents, but were unable to save the building, the fire having broken out at the roof. We do not know what the loss will a mount to. Accident. We are informed, that on Tues day of last week, 12th inst.,C. Z.M'CulIough of Lawrence township, received a severe cnt from an axe in the hands of another person, whilst engaged in rafting. The person was driving a pin and the axe accidentally glanced, nd struck Mr. M'Cuilough on the side of the left foot, cutting a gash several inches in length, and severing od artery. The wound hied profusely for several hours and was very painful, but is now healing fast. I.v Jail. On last Friday afternoon, 15th . Inst., A. J. Ilays, and Owen M'Govern, were lodged in jail for robbing tho store of John P. Jlider, in Covington township, on the night of the 11th. Suspicion having attached to Ilays, a warrant was issued, on which he was arrest ed and brought before P. A. Gaulin, Esq. On examination he confessed the thoft, delivered up a portion of the goods, and implicated M'Govern as an accomplice and the leader 1n tho robbery. M'Govern, however, denies having any knowledge of the affair.- Hays was tried last fall for robbing M'Gehan's store, tut was cleared. How he will fare this time remains to be seen. Robbery. In the latter part of the past week, tho store of Hon. Wm. L. Moore, in Clearfield Borough, was robbed of $110,00 $116,00 in gold and $30,31 in silver. The money was taken out of tho sale, which con tained some $800,00 more, of paper money. This, however, was not disturbed, although tho gold wag lying on top of one of the packages of bank bills. The money was first missed on Ratnrday evening, but owing to the fact that the key had been left in the lock of the safe, and tome other circumstances, it is supposed It had been taken some time during Friday. An Act to Incorporate the Anderson Croek Public Road and Navigation Company. Sectiox 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth f Pennsylvania in General .Isscmbly met and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same That John Patton, Benj.imin Hartshorn, James Spencer, Samuel Arnold, David Dressier, Wil liam F. Johnston, David Kirk, Wilson Moore and William M'Bride, or a majority or them, all of the county of Clearfield and State of Pennsylvania, are hereby appointed commis sioners to do and perform the several things hereinafter provided for, viz., to open books, receive subscriptions, and organize a company by the name style and title of the Anderson's Creek public road and navigation company, with power to construct a public road from tho mouth of Anderson's creek up said creek, by the best and most convenient route, as far as Moore's mill on the main branch, and as far as David Irvin's mill on tho other branch, all of which will be in the county of Clearfield and In relation to the organization of said compa ny, it shall be subject to all tbe restrictions and have all of the powers contained in the first, second, third, fourth, filth, sixth, seventh, eighth and nineteenth sections of the act, en titled, "An Act regulating turnpike and plank road companies," passed the twenty-sixth day oi January one tnousamt eight hundred and forty-nine so far as tho same are not inconsis tent with the following provisions of this act. Section- 2. That the capital stock ol said company shall consist of two hundred and fifty shares of twenty dollars each. Section 8. That said company shall have the privilege of using and occupying twenty five feet on each side of the centre line of said road, but shall not be compelled to open for use more than twelve feet wide of the same. Section 4. That said company shall have full power to enter upon and improve the as cending navigation of Anderson's creek, by cutting away and clearing out of the bed of the stream, at least once in each year, all of the brush, timber, roots, el cetera, so that saw logs ami square timber may bo floated down said stream as far up as the upper terminus of said road above mentioned. Skction 5. That for the purpose of locating and constructing said road ami ot improving the led of the stream, the company are au thorized to enter upon the land adjacent there to and take wood, gravel and other materials necessary for that purpose, doing no unneces sary damage to private property and subject to the payment for such materials, as provided for by the general road laws, namely, the act approved tho twenty-sixth January, one thou sand eight hundred and forty-nine. Section 6. That as soon as said road shall be opened fortravelling, the company are here by authorized to ask, demand and receive the following tolls lor the use of said road, to wit : twenty cents per. thousand for shingles, twenty-five cents per thousand for boards inch measure, and eight dollars lor every raft of square timber not exceeding in quantity six thousand cubic feet hauled over said road or over any part of it, and for all other kinds of travelling on said road the same rates of toll as the Susquehanna and Waterford turnpike road company were allowed to charge by their original charter. Slctios 7. That said company shall have a right to demand and receive from any and every person using the said stream for the pur pose of running, or floating lumber across its waters, the sum of twenty cents per thousand, board measure, for all lumber put in said stream, the company may at their option de mand in advance the payment of said toll, or security for the same, and in all cases where they do so, the persons from whom such de mand is made shall be considered and treated as tresspassers, if they use or attempt to use said stream without first paying or securing to the satisfaction of tho company the toll so demnnded. Section 8. That the said company may re quire from the persons using said stream, a statement of the amount of lumber put in the stream to be floated down, and the said per sons are hereby required within ten days after such demand, to furnish such statement, on failure to furnish said statement, or upon said statemect when furnished, being shown to be wilfully wrong, it shall be lawful for the com pany to recover treble the amount of tolls au thorized by this act for the actual amount of Iumlier put in the stream. Section 9. That the said company, shall have power to sue for and recover the tolls, authorized by this act. as debts of like amount are now recoverable by law. Section 10. That all tolls for the use of the navigation, shall be payable if no demand for the s-ime be made in advance, to the treas urer, at his office in the borough of Curwens villo, within ten days after the lumber shall have been started in said stream, and on fail ure to make such payment, the party in default shall forfeit and pay double the usual rates of toll. Section 11. That in all judgments render ed for toll, under this act, the defendant shall not be entitled to the benefit of the act of ninth of April, one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine. Section 12. That any person or persons, wilfully obstructing in any manner, said road or stream, after cither shall have been opened, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined and imprisoned at the discretion of the court. Section 13. That the annual meeting of said company, for tho purpose of electing of ficers, shall be on the first Monday in July of each year, and the board of officers first elect ed, shall only hold their offices until the first succeeding annual meeting.
