God, oMbe mystic silver bow Of knowledge more than mortals know, "Who could the present.past aad Jnture name, And paint each glowing scene in flame. From a former poem. Tie was God, who tonchcd his harp With more than fragile human's art, , And tuned his deep resounding lyre, To breathe the words of poic fire ; A God of a golden harp, A deity yet of man a part. He spoko enthralled a world; and nations Beard entranced ; The soldiers shield reversed ; he poised the balanced lance, And kings descended from their thrones To greet the bard of golden tones, As when on high the lightning plays Athwart the sky his forked rays, And shaking his fiery trident nigh, Blinks fierce at earth his stormy eye ; So he, wra.pt in celestial mind, Gazed on the scoffing world behind, On Alpine's highest mountain walked, And most familiar with the gods there talked. Thus standing on the cloud wrapt peak, In solemn grandeur hear him speak, "Whilst at his leet the thunders moan, Till shakes the mountains solid cone, Or on the glacier's crumbling brink, With joy the chasm horrors drink; Thus standing half Hwccn heaven and .and, Half earth, half heavenly thoughts command. He grasps tho lightning's horrid chain, And burls the bolt with fatal aim, Till laboring earth with torture groans, And rock the hills with awful moans. Ho spoke the pent up thunder rolled ; His sign the angry storms controlled ; Leveled strong cities to the plain, And crushed the gods to men again ; And leaping on the dove's etherial wing. Drops through the ether vault's blue spring j Softly to the distant earth descends, An to the humbler theme attends : Tho rippling rill, . The shady hill, The quiet nook, The rolliog brook, The matted sward, The cottage lord, The angry wave, The lonely grave. The maiden love, The cooing dove, The poet's lyre, The critio's fire, The wrangling state. The satire's hate, The buzzing bee, The skipping flea. The witty flash, The goading lash, The palace floor, The dreary moor, And all the other themes of earth, E'en to the cricket on the hearth, Each bath attuned bis golden lyre, On each has breathed his living fire ; He hath writ of worlds and kings and men. Hath soared and stooped, then soared again, Until poised on fame's topmost round, Heard o'er the world bis name resound ; Thns standing on her loftiest hill, Commanded kings to yield his will. TnE BIDGWAY FARM COMPANY has made ar rangements by which all who desire to settlo or purchase a home can do so. Tho farms consist of the best limestone soil of the most superior quality for farming, in a rapidly improving place, into which an extensive emigration is now pouring. The property is located in Elk County. Pennsylva nia, in the midst of a thriving population of some 10.000. The climate is perfectly healthy, and the terrible plague of the west fever is unknown. It also has an abundance of the best quality of Coal and Iron. The price to buy it out is from $3 to S20 per acre, payable in instalments, to bo located at the time of purchasing, or a share of 25 acres entitling to locate the same for S:500, payabln St$ er month or 121 acres payable S-t per month. iscount for every sum of 100 and under, paid in advance, a discount of 5 per cent, will be allowed, and for over S100 a discount ot 10 per cent. In considering tho advantages of emigrating to this locality tho following are presented : First The soil is a rich limestone, capable of raising the heaviest crops, owing to which this set tlement has attained its present great prosperity. Second It is the centre of the great North West Coal Basin, and is destined soon to become one of the greatest business places in the State. It will supply tho great Lake market, (according to popu lation and travel tho greatest in the Union.) It has five workable veines ofheticst Bituminous Coal, amounting in tho aggregate to over 22 feet, which makes 2'.000 tons of coal under each acre. This wilt make the land of inestimable value. Third The eminent state geologist Dr. Chas. T. Jackson of Boston, has made, a geological sur vey of the land, and analysed the coal, the iron ore and the limestone. .This report togetherwith mops will be furnished to inquirers. Fourth Three railroads are laid out through this property. - The Sunbury and Erie Railroad gives ns a market foronrcoal to the Lakes it runs from Erie to Philadelphia. - A large part of this road has been finished, and is now in running or der. A heavy foroo is now working from Erie to wards our land in the western direction, the means for the completion of which has been raised it will soon be finished. The Allegheny Valley Rail road connects ns with Aew lork, Boston and 1'itts burg. The Venango Boad connects as with the West. - . . ----- ' : There are already good TurnDike roads running through the property, various other roals have oeen opened to aceommodato the emigration and settlement which has already taken place. - There is no opportunity equal to it now offered to the man who wants to provide himself a home ia ao easy way, aad make a settlement where he can live in prosperity and independence in a cli mate PERFECTLY HEALTHY. No ease of fever ever having- been known to oe car in this settlement. : It is not like going to the backwoods of the West, among perhaps intollerant people, where therp is no society, churches, er schools, where the price of land is high, and where the emigrant, after being used to the healthiest Climate in the world, has to endure sickness and pain, and perhaps rains his health and that of his lamuy. !ut acre is a thriving settlement having three towns, containing churches, Schools, hotels, stores, saw mills, grist mills, and everything d ixea. in ere is a easn market at band. The lum ber trade last year amoantod to over two hundred million feet of lumber, la a short time, owing to the coal, it will still become more valuable, as a number or iron works and manufactories will toon be started : they are at present starting them ex tensively at Warren. ; Even for those who do not wish to go there.the payments are such that they ean easily boy a farm to save their rising families from want in the future, or to gain a competence by the rise which will take plaoe ia the value of lands By aa ontlay scarcely missed, a substan tial provision ean be made -- .- .'
