The "Faoa Swamp" In the eastern part of
our borough is a decidedly bad thing. On a
warm day, "the rankest compound of villain
ous smell that ever offended nostril," as Billy
.Shakespeare says, pervades the atmosphere in
its vicinity. . The foul i-ffluvia that arises is
pulling In jeopardy the health of our citizens;
for wo believe it is a fact that the gases gene
rated in such places, though they are specially
adapted to plants and vegetation, arc offensive
to our nostrils, ununited to our lungs, and
noxious to our system. Some immediate ac
tion should, therefore, be taken to have the
swamp drained and filled up. The water could
be drawn of! by underdralning ; and charcoal
and coal ashes could be spread over the sur
fcice, and would answer not only for filling up,
but as a disinfecting ogent. Whether' this
would be A practicable mode of proceeding or
not, wc won't pretend to assert. Some means
of removing the nuisance should, however,
Iw employed, and that speedily. We trust
the matter will at once be deemed worthy the
attention of our citizens.

Got Is. -A young man, flourishing the sin

corned on last Wednesday, and, unfortunately

feelings, he attracted the attention of the sher

Tns Weather, during the lust week, was
fine, and gardening and farming operations
have been pushed along rapidly. The crops
look well and give promise of an abundant
yield. The fruit crop will be limited almost
exclusively to apples, of which the indications
are that there will be an abundance.
Mat Partt. The school of Miss Leavy,

VII I'M AN LIFE SAVED !
IMwauiac. Mich., March 11, 1".'5.
J. A. RHODES, Esq : Dear Sir As I took your
medicine to sell on consignment. ':no cure no pay,'1
I t ike pleasure in stating it? effects a' reported to
luc by three brothers who live in this place, and
their testimony is a fair specimen of all I have re
ceived :
. H. Conklin told me 'T had taken nine bot
tle1; of Christie's Ague Ihilsaii, and continually run
down while, using it until my longs and liver were
Congested to that degree that blood discharged
frcm mv mouth and bowels, eo that all thought it
impossible for nie to live through another chill.
The doctors too did all they could for mc, but tbo't
I must die. Nothing did mc any good until I got
Rhodo's Fever and Ague Cure, which at once re
lieved mc of the distress and nausea at my stomach
and pain iu my head and bowels, and produced a
permanent cure iu a short time.
H. M. Conklin says : "1 had been taking medi
cine of as good a doctor as we have in our county,
and taken any quantity of quinine and specifics
without any good result, from 2."th August to 17tb
December. Uut seeing how nicely it operated on
my brother, I got a bottle of Rhodes' Fever and A
gue Cure, which effected a permanent cure by us
ing two-thirds of a bottle."
S. M. Couklin was not hcrC; but both the other
brothers say his case was the same as 11. M'a. I
sold the medicine to both the sumo day. and the
cure was as ppecdy from the same Fmall quantity,
and I might so specify. Yours with respect.
A. II L NTT NOT ON.
The above speaks for itself. Gooa proof as it is.
it is of no better tenor than the vast number of like
ceri'Ilcitc1! I have already published, and the still
greateramount that iseontinnally pouring in to me.
One thiog more. Last year I had occasion tocau
tion the public in these words : " noicrone firm
tc'io Itttre tairi one of' m y general circulars, i?6
stititt'.d the HaiM of thur nostrum for my itrtli
ci.iryail then vith brazen impudence end their
pamphlet vith the exclamation, Lt the, proprietor
ot' any other medicine say us iiuc'i if he diiret'ifS
Now I take pleasure "in saying that the caution
referred to .'he same '-Dr. Christie's Ague Balsam"
thai is mentioned in the above certificate.
There arc several other industrious people who
are applying to their poisonous trau all that I
publish about my Fever and Ague Cure, or Anti
doto t Malaria, except tho cerlilleatos of cores,
and the certificate of tho celebrated Chemist. Dr
.lames R. Chilton, of N. Y., in favor of its perfect
ly hirmlr.t.t character, which is att.iched to fvery
bottle. These will always serve to distinguish my
medicine from imitations. JAS. A. RHODES.

THE GRAND EXTERNAL REMEDY.
BY the aid of a microscope, wc sec millions of

Through those this Ointment, when rubbed on the
skin, is carried to any organ or inward part. Dis
eases of the Kidueys. disorders of tho Liver, affec
tions of tho Heart, inflammation of tho Lung.
Asthmas, Cough3 and Colds, are by its means ef
fectually cured. Every housewife knows that salt
passes freely through bone or meat of any thick

penetrates through any bono or fleshy part of the
living body, curing tho most dangorous inward
complaints, that cannot be reached by other means.
ERYSIPELAS, SALT RHEUM AND SCORBUTIC
HUMORS.
No remedy ha3 ever done so much for the cure
of diseases of tho skin, whatever form they may
assume, as this Ointment. No case of Salt Rheum,
Scurvy, Sore Heads, Scrofula or Erysipelas, can
long withstand its iurluencc. Tho inventor has
travelled over many parts of the globe, visiting
tho principal hospitals, dispensing this Ointment,
giving advice as to its application, and has thus
been the means of restoring countless numbers to
health.
: SORE LEGS. SORE BREASTS, WOUNDS AND

Some of tho most scientific surgeons now rely
solely on tho nse of this wonderful Ointment, when
having to cope with tho worst cases of sores, ulcers,
wounds, glandular swellings, and tumors. Profes

ernments, dispatched to tho hospitals of the East,
largo shipments of this Ointment, to boused un
der the direction of tho Medical staff, in tho wort
cases of wounds. It will euro any ulcer, glandu
