The Concert on THuraday Evening.
AB we anticipated, City Hall was graced by a large, briL
Rant and fashionable andience„on Tbursthy evening, to
listen to what we have no hesitation in saying, was the
richest musical treat that has been offered to na for year..
The Hall was well filled at the hoar fur opening, although
the weather was not very propitious. Vieuxternps and
Thalberg performed with their usual success, and the dnett
from Somnambula by thus.. two groat artists was a remark
able performance. The fantasia by Veuxtemps on one
string only was truly wonderful, and It was with difficulty
that many of the audience believed that only one string
was used. A gem from the Huguenots and ItnssLan airs by
Tha'berg wore also finely rendered. Miss Juliana May, an
American lady of considerable reputation, has a beautiful
voice, and was well received and warmly applauded, espe
cially when she sang "Coming through the Rye." Madame
Annetta Caradorl is not as Ike a singer, nor has she as good
a voice, yet the air ot "Tell me, my Heart," was very touch.
lugly rendered. Rut the great attraction of the evening
was Madame D'Augri, who fully sustained the great repute.
Lion oho has obtained. Her fitst piece--"Ah! mon Ills,"
though almi. ably sang, did not owes to be adaim.d to the
display ot be: wonderful capacities. Though her voice is
nut as s.ivery as Mlas 31ity's, the deficiency is amply made
up in its remarkable compass and her admirable execution.
She was doubly encored, and graciously responded to both
calls. We do not remember to have heard her execution of
the drinking song in Lucretia Borgia excelled, except by
Vestrall, and her seperiority in the lower notes was strik
ingly manifest in the military chorus of "Rataplan." Al
together, the concert was a great :.access, and the entire
autfierc 3 seemed perfectly satisfied. And they should have
been, for instead of hearing twelve pieces, as announced in
the programme, twenty-throe were given. We hays before
given our views on the subject of snare ; and we repeat
that it is au imposition for an audience to *wand the re
petition of each and every piece. It may be well enough,
when a piece is particularly well executed, to call out the
artiste, as a mark of approbation and encouragement, when,
If he sees proper, h.. may sing or play a second piece; but
after he has acknowledged the compliment by making his
bow. itfis, to say the least, unreasonable, to insist, by clam
orous and long continued applause, fur a repetition of the
same, or the execution of another, piece.

THE Int.t:Ns —Every afternoon a company of Indians,
ankle and female, squaws and warriors, fa seen riding through
the streets on horseback. They attract considerable atten
tnm, and are folloued by a crowd of boys. In the evening,
they exhib.t the manners and customs of their race at Ma
h nic Ilan, and a lecture explaining their peculiarities, i3de•
hvered by Kawshawgance, their chief, said to be a man of
car•iderabls talent and good education. These exhibitions
are amusing and instructive, and we hope our citizens will
patronize them during their stay. This evening's perform
unce advertised ELI the last, but we hope for the benefit of
who have bean enable t ,,- visit tham, they will remain
3 ft W days l,uger.
Tag Tun:.llaci.—There seems to be a misapprehension in
the minds cf a portion of the public r.cucerning the ap
praactaug Saengerbund festival of the Germane, which we
I,ti,ed 'este - day, many persons supposing it is to be a OOP-
VeLltiVll of the Turners. This is a mistake. The organiza
tic,a is distinct, and entirely different in its character, having
fc.r its object only the cultivation of musical talent, while
t.ith the Turners, vocal music f;ains but a small part of the
triceicises, which are principally of a gymnastic character.
h.. convention of Turns:6 met iu this city two years since,
cud this summer we are informed they will meet in Mil
waukee.
TILE MI3bIREL3.—AS usual the Morris Minstrels had a good
wadi. Dee at the Theatre last evening, and were ac enthu.
istically received at on their first appearance. A good
programme is offered for the little ones this afternoon,
.son we expect to tee the house filled. The evening's en
tertainment will be a change of programme, with new
songs and dances. We hope, f,,r the benefit of those who
to enjoy a hearty laugh, that the management of the
Theatre will induce this company to remain another week,
we think it would prove profitable to both.
Tuicvrrlu.-.Our city seems to be infested with adroit
thieves at present, as we have heard of several persons who
have had their pockets picked lately. Ono evening this
week, three persons at public places were relieved of small
amounts of money and one of a gold watch. It would he
well fur those who find it necessary to go into crowds to
hoop thdr " hands on pocket-hooks," or they may find it
utilising. Our police officers, though very efficient, cannot
he every place at once, and hence the necessity of each
',eking after his own property.

A GOOD DIAL of interest has been nuinifested in the pro.

THE USE OF DR. HOSTETTER'S STOMACH
", BITTERS," for Dyspepsia, Flatulence, Heaviness of the
Btomach, or any other like aflection, Is second to none in
America or abroad. To be able to state confidently that
the " Bitten " are a certain cure for dyspepsia and like ilLs
eases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed pleasure.
It removes all morbid matter from the Stomach, purifies the
blood, imparts renewed vitality to the nervous system, giving
It that tone and energy so indispensable for the restoration
of health. The numerous acknowledgments of its superior
exciellence and beneficial results, have assured the proprie

use of J. M. Olin's Celebrated Stomach Bitters, and the nu•
morons certificates which are daily received, in their favor,
show conclusively that they are the greatest and moat roller
`hie preparation of the kind ever introduced to the public
and at this season, when loss of appetite is so prevalent, no;
ono consulting their own interest can afford to do without
them. The Bitters are pleasant to the taste and agreeable
in their effects. As a tonic they are delightful ; they are a
reliable remedy for Dispepsia, Costiveness, etc., and a sure
