AB we anticipated, City Hall was graced by a large, briL Rant and fashionable andience„on Tbursthy evening, to listen to what we have no hesitation in saying, was the richest musical treat that has been offered to na for year.. The Hall was well filled at the hoar fur opening, although the weather was not very propitious. Vieuxternps and Thalberg performed with their usual success, and the dnett from Somnambula by thus.. two groat artists was a remark able performance. The fantasia by Veuxtemps on one string only was truly wonderful, and It was with difficulty that many of the audience believed that only one string was used. A gem from the Huguenots and ItnssLan airs by Tha'berg wore also finely rendered. Miss Juliana May, an American lady of considerable reputation, has a beautiful voice, and was well received and warmly applauded, espe cially when she sang "Coming through the Rye." Madame Annetta Caradorl is not as Ike a singer, nor has she as good a voice, yet the air ot "Tell me, my Heart," was very touch. lugly rendered. Rut the great attraction of the evening was Madame D'Augri, who fully sustained the great repute. Lion oho has obtained. Her fitst piece--"Ah! mon Ills," though almi. ably sang, did not owes to be adaim.d to the display ot be: wonderful capacities. Though her voice is nut as s.ivery as Mlas 31ity's, the deficiency is amply made up in its remarkable compass and her admirable execution. She was doubly encored, and graciously responded to both calls. We do not remember to have heard her execution of the drinking song in Lucretia Borgia excelled, except by Vestrall, and her seperiority in the lower notes was strik ingly manifest in the military chorus of "Rataplan." Al together, the concert was a great :.access, and the entire autfierc 3 seemed perfectly satisfied. And they should have been, for instead of hearing twelve pieces, as announced in the programme, twenty-throe were given. We hays before given our views on the subject of snare ; and we repeat that it is au imposition for an audience to *wand the re petition of each and every piece. It may be well enough, when a piece is particularly well executed, to call out the artiste, as a mark of approbation and encouragement, when, If he sees proper, h.. may sing or play a second piece; but after he has acknowledged the compliment by making his bow. itfis, to say the least, unreasonable, to insist, by clam orous and long continued applause, fur a repetition of the same, or the execution of another, piece.
