On Tuesday night, quite an extensive robbery was committed at the Red Lion Hotel, St. Clair street. A gentleman from up the Allegheny river came in by the Allegheny Valley Railroad and stopped at the Red Lion. Ho had some $905 in a pocket book, with which ho designed making purchases in our city. He took supper and at a seasonable hour re tired to bed, securely fastening the door. His money was in the side pocket of his coat, which he negli fiently throw over a chair by his bedside. Another b e d was in the room, occupied by a single person. While dressing yesterday morning, be missed his money, and immediately proceeded to the Mayor's Office, and informed that officer of his loss. The police visited the house, and it was ascertained that the man who had slept in the other bed had left the room before Morgan was awake. Ho was arrested and taken to the Mayor's Office, where be was scorched; none of the trissing money was found upon his person, indeed, none whatever, ex cept some forty dollars in counterfeit money. Ito glinting this circumstance as su.picious, the Mayor held him to bail for further explanation. His name is B e atty. B e i. a middle aged wan, and is well known and hi•thly r , ,:pocted in Clarion county, where , t , at the hotel [teat he resiliia. n i g h t , an d liacc not been i•ectu since. Every pre caution tia , been taken to secure those men. Mean time, the police aro busily engaged in a search for other 9 tispwi.wi parties, and Ivo think they will sue in catching the thief. Last week, as a train on tho Pennsylvania Rail road was passing along between Lockport and Now Florence, a boy was seen, waving a handkerchief attached to a stick as a signal. The train stopped and a large tree was discovered lying across the track. But for this timely warning many lives might have boon lost. The passengers immediately raised a collection and tendered it to him, who re fused, saying, " I charge nothing for saving human Mr. Jesse Rumbaugh, of liemplield township, Westeioreli,ml county, was thrown from a sleigh on the turnpike, near Malmberg, on Saturday last, severely fracturing his skull. The fracture was re ducal and he is now doing well. It is not known whether the fracture was caused by tee full or a hick from toe horse. After the usual opening religious exercises, Mr. B. I'. Bakewt II stated that the Association are now called upon to put forth new efforts, through their Central Committee, to supply fuel to the destitute poor. Up to this time, they have been successful beyond their n (e;t sanguine expectations in finding means to be stow in this behalf. They have on hand now enough coal to carry them through the current week. They must expect calls upon them for a week after the present, at least. To supply toil demand, $l5O at least will be needed. Mr. B. thought he could promise $5O more from the First Ward. A portion of the Third Ward had nut yet been canvassed, and he thought there would he no difficulty in securing the requ.red amount. We have no doubt this most reasonable request will he speedily complied with on tI a part of our citizens. Messrs. B. P. Ik.tewall, Gilbert M'Masters, and J. R. Reed, were appointed delegates to attend a Con ention of A ssocuttions of this kind, to be held in .Thi,rleston, S. C., on the 19. h of April. ho following gentlemen were unanimously elected :.ss—ciate members of the Association last evening Messrs. Moog. P. Kerr, W. P. Thompson, J. G. Sproul, H. C. Pavia, W. IV. Wright. E. Dietrick, W. 11. Kirkpatrick, George libbers, John M'Lain, Jr., and Lansing Howard. A proposition to institute an afternoon prayer meet ing, (to be held at the rooms of the Association,) sim ilar to those held in New York and other cities, WPC made and discussed. It„was thought best to lay the mater on the table, for a little further consideration and consultation with pastors and members of the churohes. These prayer meetings are to be of a 1 denominations, and all persons will be invited to at. rend. The subject will be further discussed at a fu ture meeting.---Reporter. Itllas Julia Turnbull. This lady takes a benefit at the Theatre this eve fling, when a good bill is offered. Although she has been among us but a short time she has become a general favorite. Tho bill for this evening consists of " Camille, or the Fate of a Coquette," with Mis.' Kimberly as Camille, Mr. J. U. Hanley as Armand. and Miss Turnbull as Hortense. Also, a musical drama entitled " beeline, or the Spirit of tho Foun tain," will he presented for the first time. In this piece she will execute several new songs and dances. We hope to see a good house at the Theatre on this occasion, as Mice Turnbull has been unfortunate in this direction. She has had two benefits this season, but inclement weather had a very powerful effect on the house both times. She deserves a good audience as she is a very useful attache of this establishment. She is not only a good daneensc, but has an excellent voice, and is withal a good actress in her line. We are sorry to lose her as her place will not soon be supplied. Munroe Stewart.—An application was made yes terday for the removal of Stewart ta the Hospital. Judge M'Olure said ho would make the order, but the Sheriff would be responsible for his safe keeping if he was removed. Mr. Patterson refused to incur this responsibility—and Stewart still remains in prison. The prisoners are much alarmed, and many of them hgve made application to Jailor Phillips to be dis charged. This, of curse, was denied, ho not having the authority to do so. Dr. Baldwin does not con sider the case of Stewart dangerous. Every effort is being made to prevent contagion. Some thirty or forty of the prisoners were vaccinated yesterday, and the remainder will be treated in the same man nor as soon as it can be accomplished. We sincerely hope this loathesome disease may be confined to the present case. Dowent on a Hnuee of 11l Fame.—On Tuesday night, a disturbanrm occurred at a house on Diamond alloy, which, coining to the ears of the Mayor, he immediately placed himself at the head of a detach• went of police, and repaired to the spct. Ile found a general fight going on, and five of the inmates were arrested, two wen and three women. The house was kept by the notorious Sal Barker. One of the men arrested is Juhn Kemp, who was discharged from jail a few days since, where he had been kept on charge of larceny, no prosecutor having ap• ['oared against him. He and the other man were ant to jail for fifteen days each. The girls paid their fines and were released. Managers—Ge ,, rge W. Jackson, James Anderson, Lewis Hutchinson, Christian Aushutz, Nathaniel Holmes, John Arbuckle, William Holmei, Thomas Itakewell, David Gilliland, Robert Beer, James W. Baxter, John Bissell. flied from her lojories.—Catherine Buch, the young won.an who wit.: run over by the mail train a week or two since, at Altoona, has since died from the effects of her injuries. She refused to suffer am putation at the time the accident occurred, and per- Fisted in her determination until last Friday, when mortification had taken place, and the physicians in attendance pronounced it useless to peform the ope ration. She died on Friday evening. Had she sub• minted to the operation her life would probably have been saved. Wvighivy of Coal.—A bill has recently been in. troduced in the Legislature, which requires dealers in coal to weigh etch cart load previous to delivery. We are of opinion that this is only fair. It would certainly work well here. Daily we hoar complaints ‘ i f short measure in coal, which is sold by the bushel. In London and other large cities of Europe, coal is sold in bags, and a severe penalty is inflicted for sell ing it without weighing. A scale could easily bo at- tached to carts for the purpose of weighing. This is a needed reform, and we hope to see it introduced. Accidcut.—On Tuesday evening, as the watchman in the Third Ward was going his rounds, he found a man lying at the mouth of the Tunnel, moaning pit ouusly, and nearly frozen to death. He had fallen from the top of the Tunnel, some teenty feet, and was considerably bruised. He was taken to the watch house, where ho was properly cared for until morning, and given to his friends. SANFORD'S INVIGORATOR, IS REQUIRED TO CURE ANY] ONE troubled with Liver Complaints, unless the most des• penile of cases, when the second bottle will, with Mine single failure, restore the patient to health and vigor. We wish to call the aturation of all to these facts, that the In vigorator is compounded by a physician who has used it in his practice for the past twenty years with a success alined credulous, and that it is entirely vegetable, being composed wholly of gums. Some idea of the strength of these gums may be formed when it is known one bottle of the Invigorator contains as much strength _ one hundred doeee of Calomel withouttany of its deleterious effects. We know there is nothing now before the American pub lic, prepared with such skill by a scientifleman, particularly for diseases of the Liver, its Dr. Sanford's invigorator, or Liver Remedy. It has attained a reputation second to no other article in the world, simply because it rest on its own merit. To convince all by trial that it is all its proprietors claim it to be, if any of our readers are suffering from such diseases as are described in Dr. Sanford's advertisement, we know of know remedy that will so surely cure them as the Invigorator. The Invigorator cures Sick Headache. Take ono or two teaspoonfuls at each attack and it will soon disappear. For an overloaded stomach, or when food riseaor sours, take the Invigorator after eating, and it will not prove disagreeable or oppress ye. For Ileartbuin, Palpitation or Difficult Breathing, take a tea poouful once or twice daily. For Lose of Appetite, Languor or Lstlea , niess, the medicine iH invalu able. It will teeters the appetite and make the food digest well. Nightmare, take a teaspoonful on retiring, and the demons of dream-land will all bo fairies. After eating a hearty dinner, take a dose of Invigorator and it will relieve all oppression or fullness. 'I ti• Invigorator is a Liver Items dy of unequaled virtue, acting directly on that organ, Cur. ing Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Billions Attacks, Dysentery, Piles, Worms, and all Female Obstructions, for which it has nu equal. We know there is nothing now before the American pub lic prepared with such skill by a scientific man, particular ly fur diseases of the Liver, us i r. Ssnford's Invigorator, or Liver Remedy. It has attained a reputation second to no other article in the word, simply because it rests on its own merit. To convince all by trial that It is all its proprietors claim it to be, if any of our readers are suffering from such diseases as are described in Dr. Sanford's advertlsersent, wo know of no remedy that will so surely cure theta as tte Invigorator. There has lately been brought to our notioe a medicine that seems to possess wonderful, curative and healing pro perties in diseases of the Liver, Stomach and Digestive or gans. It came to us with so many testimonials in its favor that wo have noted its effects in seme of the worst cases of continual dibility, caused by deranged liver, and in every instance the effect was to relieve or give a permanent cure, Dr. Sanford's invigorator, or Liver Remedy is what we re fer to. We always have been credulous about cures by pat ent medicines, but we are convinced that this medicine, for family use, is not overrated by the host of recommendations it has. Our advice is, for all troubled with Indigestion, bility or Bowel Complaint, to get a bottle and try it; our word for it, relief will be experienced. litessmas To THE INVALIDS who two Dr. Banford'a Invigor ator, for it will relieve them of their pains as aeon as it is taken into their stomach. Pain and misery cannot exist where the Invigirator is used, for it will as surely drive them away, as daylight will banish darkness, of this there can b I DO doubt to th ko who try it, fur it carries conviction witk every dose taken. Another evidence is the thousands of certificates (rum those who use it or have been cured by ft, Try one bottle, it it does not benefit, then wo are mistaken. For want of nourishment your oystem becomes loose and flabby, and the fibres of your body become relaxed. How many thousands of p.)or women are suffering from this disease and pining away a miserable life, and their next door neighbor dues not know the cause. I wish to impress co your mind that good old proverb, " Au ounce of proven• don is better than optim: of cure."
