thus far has been that of a rabid Black Repuhlt

on the question between Fillmore and Fremont.
The latter bad but two of a majority. A com
promise was then made by which the paper is to
support Fremont up to the October election ; but
is not to abuse Fillmore. If the Fillmore party
has a large vote in' October, another meeting is
to be held to decide whether the paper bhall not

The paper is to blackguard Buchanan and the

for the fast month of the campaign is still in

Good Neu, for the Partner
Lt is nuts month since we congratulated the
conntry :on the result of another glorious grain
horvest, thronghotit the Union. It was then
predicted that France and England would again
have slit : tut:6in recourse to our :owflowing gra
naries, as in 1855, although their own harvest
might promise fair. The accounts received by
the Persia yesterday bring the evidences of this
demand much earlier than we had anticipated,
and although fair allowance should still be made
for the sudden and frequent changes in the
English harvest weather, which in the end may
prove favorable to nn average yield, there is
scarcely a remaining doubt that the general
supply throughout Hump° will fall short of the'
wants and ability of the people to consume good
bread-unless the United States be largely drawn
upon. This remark applies more particularly to
wheat and flour. There is another featurn in
the present news of the highest importance?. to
the American farmer, and to our railway lines
employed in the transportation of breadstuffs.
The potato disease has reappeared in Ireland
and in solos districts of England, and, the fact
having been made known in Liverpool, an im•
mediate rice occurred in Indian corn, of which
the United States enjoy almost the exclusive
supply to the British ports. As a substitute for
the Potato, it was found of the utmost impor
twice during the Irish famine of 1817, and, since
then, has not only grown in favor for bread, but
in England, for cattle feed also. As this is the
first news of the injury to the potato, it will, of
course, be acted upon with some degree of cau
tion until further accounts of the arrest or pro
gress of the disease. The chances are, however,
that in England, where the sensitiveness on the
food supply is extreme, the present advance on
indian corn will be well supported until all ap
prehension shall htfve hero completely removed.
And this will give our farmers a good price for
an important staple. and our railways at the
West a large.addition to their freight traffic, in
an article which can only pay the charges for
transportation by railway when prices arewell up.
